i am a physician who recently attended a botox and dermal filler workshop offered by the Esthetics Skin Institute, aka, ESIW. I do not normally write anything on the internet (good or bad) but this time i am so distraught that i feel the need to warn other health care professionals about the company and share my experiences. In summary i wasted my time and money over an entire weekend and still need to reinvest the same tuition and time to learn this material. I believe the course was a complete waste and warn others not to go in this direction. To start, the Botox course was a complete waste of time. I thought the morning was just starting out a little slow and hoped it was going to get better. The manual that I was given looked like they just photocopied some random materials and papers they had on Botox. The manual was very incomplete and was more of an outline then a complete manual which is what i would have expected for the $1000 plus price i paid for the tuition. Next and more importantly, lecture was thoroughly unorganized and random. During the lecture people would ask questions and the teacher would have these side conversations with the individual. The nurse instructor, and please no offense to nurses, was not prepared and knew nothing about what she was talking about. It was a joke. She talked about a few simple techniques about botox but I found numerous mistakes and overall the information was very basic. I learned more about botox and fillers by reading on the internet and doing my own research about these topics. Their instructors are ill prepared and completely incompetent with regards to the teaching. During the morning lecture the instructor took constant breaks and their were constant interruptions. Lunch was almost 2 hours.
The Hands On was SCARY!. As a physician i cant imagine how the FDA or whatever regulatory agency would allow what they are doing. To start, there was a large group of people, who knows if they were doctors, nurses, or just anyone, wandering around the room, no organization, no teaching, no supervision, horrible sterile technique, needles left on the hotel table, blood sponges and gloves left everywhere. I felt very uncomfortable being in this room. The teaching was just a crowd of people flocked around a nurse injecting a patient and everyone watching. I am sorry but i not only wasted money on the tuiion but also money on my flight and hotel expenses. Worst of all i learned nothing. I did leave with a certificate, i guess they give this to anyone no matter if the person is qualified or not. What a ridiculous course, how can they stay in business. Can someone please tell me how to get training in Botox and Fillers. I am willing to pay an individual for some good instruction in Botox and Fillers. Thank you.
