Experian advertises a free 30 day trial period to review your credit report and credit score with subsctiption to their online service called "Credit Manager".

When you go online to subscribe you fill out numerous forms that verify your life history and confirm you are you, but then they tell you that, for your security (yeah right), they will snail mail you an access code. Only when you receive the mailed code can you then access your credit information. With me it was 8 days until the code came in the mail.

I went online and accessed my account the very same day I received the code and I also made sure to mark my calendar for 28 days later to cancel the subscription within the "free 30-day trial", in order not to incur any fees. The catch is that they actually start the 30 day subscription the day you first contact them, not the 10 days or so later when you first are able to access the account. So there is no possible way, it is physically impossible, for any consumer to actually get 30 days to review the account without a charge. After allowing for mail delivery and processing time the most a consumer can get is 20 days or so to actually review the account. So while a normal logical person might think that an offer to review an account free for 30 days would mean you get to review the account for, oh, say thirty days, they are actually tricking consumers into at least one month of charges for the "free" review.
