Today october 20th 2016 i decided i wanted to buy two adult tickets to the renaissance festival in texas. The renaissance festival website sent me to extreme tix website where i continued to try to but to adult tickets which cost 52 something. I entered in my information for my debit card like i always have for over two years now. Same address same name thats always been used for my card. Well when i placed my order an error popped up stating that my address was not correct. Thinking that i messed up i tried to redo everything again error "your order can not be placed". I called my debit card to find out that they took the money from my card. But its not posted on my account that they took it. But the amount that is gone is the exact amount of the tickets. I called costumer service to get a lady who stated that my card was declined becausr the address was wrong. She then stated that my money woulf return to my account within 72 hours. And that the money was taken out for protection for myself. How is taking 52 dollars out of my account with no intent on giving me tickets protection from myself. And another thing is how can they take money from my debit card and it not be placed into places where ive spent my money on in the last 30 days. It does not show the transaction on my card when it comes to them. Only that they stole my money so if i donot recieve my money within 72 hours like the lady said im going to raise h***.

We do apologize that you had issues with purchasing Texas Renaissance Festival tickets recently. We strive to provide the best possible experience as the ticketing vendor for our clients. Our payment processor has a high standard in regards to filtering out fraud or malicious charges. During the process of purchasing tickets there could have been an error within the address or the address was slightly off from what the bank had. This will cause the payment to show up as declined.

Depending on the type of debit card (prepaid, bank, etc) will depend on whether there will be a hold or not during this decline. This hold is issued by the bank, not ExtremeTix. We never received the funds of that purchase as it was declined. During a hold the bank typically will return those funds within 72 hours. Depending on the bank and/or the proximity of weekends will depend on the exact timing of the return. This happens with credit cards too, but many times is called pending.

How does this protect you? If this were fraudulent or malicious this hold will allow the bank to easily return you the funds that someone else could have tried to use. The holds are intended to protect you from having a wrongful charge from someone else using your card and the bank from losing money.

It is unfortunate that you went through this and we understand how this can cause a headache, however there is nothing we can do to return the money as we never received those funds. The bank is the one holding it. We never “stole” anything and you will receive your money back once the bank releases that hold.

Please understand how debit cards and banks work before calling us a “scam”
