Myself and my wife are considered something called 's****.>

When we heard of an Italian pastry shop in Vero Beach called Fararras Italian Bakery we were excited and were more excited when we got there and the owner said they were from Brooklyn and continue to keep the family old world charm alive.

So we ordered a ton of pastries that looked fantastic. We were planning on enjoying these later in the evening and also with some company the next day.

Before leaving I noticed they also sold cold cuts. So we decided to purchase a half pound of balogna so we can make some sandwichesforlunch when we got home. When we got into the car, we immediately smelt something that was wrong. It was the balogna.

It was old and we had to throw it out when wegot home. We chalked it up to they are an Italian pastry shop not a deli giving them the benefit of the doubt.

That evening we tried to enjoy some of the pastries and they weren't authentic at all. What was supposed to be different kinds ofItalian creams includingthefamous cannoli cream we didn't get it. It was mostly cheap whip cream taking its place.

I guess for those who wouldn't know any better it might holdup. But we were rather upset to say the least.

Then a friend called to saythat my son and his wife were planning a surprise visit for their20th anniversary and I know how much they love a cannoli cake.

SoI said to my wife, maybe we should call that bakery and explain our problem and maybe they can put together a good cannoli cake and we agreed.

So I called and spoke to the owner and I toldhim the problems we hadincluding the cold cuts he said we probablybought the balognaat a time in the season when they don't get much traffic and that's why it may have had an odor. I couldn'tbelieve it!

But when I told him about the whip cream he assured me that for this cannoli cake only the best and traditional ingredients will be used and he sounded very convincing so I ordered the cake. But he said....

Since this was a special order that also invloved pricey ingredients he needed a $50 deposit. So myself and my wife drove over there and gave him $50 cash.

When we picked up the cake I gave him the balance in cash which was $44. So we now left there very happy that we now have a traditional $94 cannolicake.

Later that evening when we brought the cake out as a surprise we ALL were certainly surprised to find out that he used that cheap whip cream. Did he think we wouldn't know the difference of cannoli cream andPure Whip?We got screwed big time.

When I calledhim for the next few days I couldn't get himon the phone. So we dropped by occaisionally to try and catch him in and when we finally didhewas just about foaming at the mouth with insults and it was quite scary.

That's all we can say. That was ourexperience. Needless to say we are never going back. What a shame and what a sham on that community.

This place is a disgrace!

All we can say is to stay away at all means.

Farrara's Bakery in Vero is Still the Best for Italian Pastries & Cakes

AUTHOR: Islandbay - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, December 03, 2011

Well ,  I am a true blooded italian. And I must say it's not Farrara's in NYC , but their pastries and cakes are with out a doubt very good.I 've be going there since its been open. The owner Freddie and his wife put out a very "italian" assortment of breads and pastries, and all are delicious. Because you recieved a 1/2 lb. of Bologne that was bad, you are really out of line to say that THE BAKERY is so bad ,that ALL is BAD, and that REAL Italians should stay far away from it. Remember it's a bakery! They may have taken on a small line of cold cuts to accommadate their customers. By the way Jack , it seems as though you can't even SPELL Italian,or BOLOGNE correct, much less know about their entire business, certainly not enough to condem the whole place!Farrara, probably added bologne to the cold cut list as a courtesy .I believe Italian Cold Cuts was their aim . Hard to get Mortadella, Prosciutto, Hard Salami etc, not the Publix americanized brands. The REAL STUFF ! With that in mind, I would venture to say that Bologna wasn't a fast mover.I do however agree, there is NO excuse for anyone to sell anything bad or tainted, but mistakes do happen.By the way, I see that you added to this complaint  $ 94.00 in pastries and cake . In your City-Data  complaint You never mentioned, how your wife tried to return ,or recieve some type of reimbursement. That would make the whole difference to me! Not the BOLOGNE your trying to feed everyone!!!

Ferrara's Vero Beach

AUTHOR: lynn - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, October 08, 2011

First of all, they are from Boston, MA not Brooklyn, NY.  Being from LI as well and having the best of the best all my life Ferrara's certainly measures up for here.  You seem like the type of person that complains no matter what.  Nobody does Italian like New York, not even Chicago.  And yet plenty of NY'ers go there and are satisfied.

Thanks for the update. Are you the lucky customer? I haven't a clue. Thank God it worked out for you. I am not here to malign the credibility of anyone, just relate my own personal experience which was exactly as what was stated. I am not a tough customer nor hard to please. This is just what happened. Since then I know at least half a dozen friends who went there, most from Long Island, who will never be stepping foot in there ever again. What could I say. This is my situation. Thanks fo your reply.

Try one?

AUTHOR: Ramjet - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, January 23, 2011

I think if I was going to spend that much money at any bakery I'd never been to before, I'd try a couple first.

Also you know as well as I do that there is variation among the bakeries in Chicago too. They are different in many ways, and should be.

I'm not sure I buy this report.

I find this report very hard to believe.I am Italianfrom L.I.N.Y. and I moved to Cocoa Beach in 1975. I used the bakery to create my wedding cake, which had a scumptious cannoli cream filling. The 30lbs. of assorted Italian cookies were wonderful. I refuse to believe that I was the lucky customer. I would have to guess that you are customer that is usually hard to please and a complainer.By the way this is how you spell bologna. You state that you have been coming down for years. It took you how long to find this great Bakery?Thank you....Thank you very much. Keep up the good work Farraras!

Farrara Italian Bakery Vero Beach

AUTHOR: Jennifer Maura - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, December 25, 2010

Farrara Italian Bakery in Vero Beach took us forMUCH more than $100 including all of the original pastries and cold cuts we purchased that were allthrown out. It's a shame that they chose a popular name for their establishment just to try and ride the success of those who made that name so famous. I guess they knew they were well below standard and couldn't make it using their own name so they tried to capitalize off of others success.
