Fed Ex declared value / insurance premiums are a complete and total rip off.

For months I have been paying additional shipping fees to Fed Ex for their declared value / insurance on packages that I ship.  Recently I have had several packages (which were packaged extremely well - with bubble wrap, properly fitting boxes, and sometimes even double boxed) arrive to my customers in pieces and / or no longer functioning.  On these occasions, I have filed a claim with Fed Ex for the damages - which are clearly due to mishandling.  EVERY SINGLE claim that I have submitted has been categorically denied. I have tried entering the claims online, and I have called in and spoken to reps about these problems.  Regardless of which method I use to file the claims, they are DENIED.  Most recently, I sent a vintage keyboard to a customer.  It worked perfectly before it shipped.  It was packaged for shipping meticulously.  When it arrived, my customer claimed that the lcd screen was broken during shipping, that it no longer worked and that she was going to have to send it back to me.  I immediately filed a claim with Fed Ex for the cost of replacing the lcd screen.  Fed Ex said that they were going to have to inspect the damage and that they would pick the package up and return it to me after their investigation.  Several days later, I received a denial of my claim in the mail.  Next, the package came back to me.  I was flummoxed to see that the keyboard was in pieces.  Not only was the lcd screen broken, but additional pieces were now completely broken off of the machine.  I called Fed Ex and asked to reopen the claim since clearly they had been the ones that packaged the keyboard themselves and it was done in such a shoddy manner that it was now in pieces.

They gave me a new case number which is: 0323552287.  Several days pass and I get another denial in the mail from them, stating that the package was not adequately prepared or packaged for safe transportation - EVEN THOUGH FED EX PACKAGED THE ITEM THEMSELVES!!  I was livid.  Several denials ago I realized that the additional money I had been paying was an absolute waste.  They have denied every single claim I have made, with the same excuse listed as the reason for denial every time - item not adequately prepared for shipping.  I started looking for other people experiencing the same thing and I have found an incredible amount of people that have also received denials for the claims.  If Fed Ex is collecting the additional revenues for insuring the packages, when something goes wrong on their part, then they should absolutely be compensating their customers for it.  It has become painfully obvious that they are not.  This is a major scam and it needs to stop.  Please do not pay Fed Ex additional declared value / insurance costs.  You are throwing your money away on insurance that will never be paid.
