I contacted Ferner bulldogs thru email about purchising a puppy. I drove from Ohio To knoxville tennesse and wanted to see the adults to the puppies and they told me that they bought a new farm and moved all the parents to be boarded there. After returning home with the 2 puppies that i bought i asked for her to send me pictures of the parents and she sent me a picture of a male dog and said it was the mom. and then sent me a picture of a dog that had another kennels name on it. i contacted the breeder thats name was on the picture and he said the ferners never owned his dog nor did he breed to him. I contacted several other breeders to find out the ferners are puppy flippers and not breeders. they buy litters and sell the puppies. i then lost my male puppy do to a lung defect and i emailed them about it and asked for help and compinsations and they dont return my emails.

Unhealthy pup....unhelpful breeder.

AUTHOR: cltaylor920 - ()

POSTED: Monday, December 23, 2013

I aslo received a pup from Ferners bulldogs that was unhealthy. She had kennel cough, mange, pnuemonia and yest infections in both ears when I got her. Her chest cavity was so full of fluid when I took her to MY vet, just a day or 2 after bringing her home, that the vet wanted to do surgery. ALL of theses conditions were preventable, and would not have went for so long and become life threating if the pups were seen by a licenced vet like they should have been. When I called about a refund or atleast help with the vet bills, since this was all things she came to me with, I was politely told that I wasnt getting my money back.

But, I could take her back to tennessee and get a new puppy if i wanted. How cold hearted!!!??? How can you just switch out a puppy like a pair of shoes that do not fit? Oh...and I was under the impression that I would be directed to the home where the dogs are kept so I could see the parents. I was not. When i inquired about seeing the parents, I was told that they were at her moms house an hour away. I should have started my drive home to Virginia then.

I do not regret getting Scarlett. She is my heart. But she has so many birth defects. Problems with her heart, spine and hips. Plus all of the sickness she went through when she was a babe...we almost lost her! Ive tried contacting the breeder with pictures of Scarlett growing up, which I thought she would want...but Ive gotten no response. This shows me either guilt...or carlessness. Or maybe she is afraid that futher contact will lead to a lawsuit. I dont know. Ive read a few bad reviews on here, and my pup has the exact same problems. Its one thing if there is one unhealthy puppy in a litter...its nature. But you dont knowingly sell it to people.

And she would have had to have known had she been taking them to the vet like she said she did. Unwanted heartache. I feel like and idiot. even though, I love my bulldog with all my heart and would die for her...I think about how she was treated as a pup and it makes me sick to my stomach. I think there is a reason why she pushes shipping puppies out....or not letting you see the other dogs when you do go for pick up. I think she is running a puppy mill or the pups are not kept and treated properly. What other reason would she have to tell people...well you cant see the parents because they are an hour away at my moms house???? Shipping them means no questions asked!!!

Another opinion...

I have to say, I was quite shocked to see the negative review on Ferner's Bulldogs. I have two healthy and happy bullies from Ferners: A male purchased in 2005 by the name of Dudley and a female purchased in 2007 by the name of Sadie.

Ferner's is not a puppy mill as you say. They are a breeder cooperative composed of several English Bulldog Breeders in the area. Puppies are born on site and handled personally by the Winsor family and staff.

I think you need to learn more about the breed. Despite proper breeding, English Bulldogs are prone to many health issues that should be addressed in a preventive fashion before they occur. For example, knee and hip issues can be warded off by starting your puppy on a regimen of free radical and antioxidant and joint care supplements. Proper nutrition is also key. Cherry Eye is another common condition which is treatable as well. Exercise is another important factor to a bully's health.

I'm sorry to hear you had this problem. However, f I recall correctly, you should have your puppy checked out by a vet as soon as you get them. If there is a problem contact Jenifer ASAP.

I would not hesitate to get my next bully from Ferners.

I purchased my AKC-certified, male bulldog from Jennifer about 5 years ago.  Dealing with her was very easy, but when talking to her on the phone she did not appear to own the dogs herself.

My bulldog is wonderful with a great temperament, but he does have some significant health issues.  First off, he was born with hip dysplasia, which is common in bulldogs.  However my poor guy has it very bad.  His femurs do not even connect to his hip joints.  I notified Jennifer of this and she was willing to take him back, but I already had him for about 5 months at that point and wouldn't have given him up for the world.  No surgery is necessary at this point but we know that he will have issues when he gets older.

As my bulldog got older, he also developed pretty severe seasonal and diet allergies.  He cannot eat any poultry (chicken, duck, etc) or beef products.  During the spring and fall his eyes water constantly and he gets lots of "g**k" all over his face that needs to be cleaned daily.  He was on Atopica for a long time which seemed to help, but we had to stop recently because he was just diagnosed with Lymphoma.  We're currently taking him to chemotherapy treatments every other week in hopes that he will go into remission.  I'm very interested in what health issues his siblings have.

I'm trying to say a few things here.  First, some of the bullies from Ferner's are in perfect healthy condition (my cousin purchased his bulldog from Ferner's 7 years ago and had no health issues at all) while others such as mine clearly are not.  If you do decide to get a puppy from Ferner's, I highly suggest visiting them and meeting the puppy's parents before committing.  Secondly, if you think the initial price for the Bulldog is high, then you may want to reconsider getting a dog.  The first year we easily spent over $1K to get our puppy proper vaccinations and neutered.  Big treatments such as operations and chemotherapy can run anywhere from $2-5K.  Keeping your dog in a 24-hour vet overnight for observation alone can run almost $1K.  I highly suggest getting pet insurance through VPI or another agency before you get your puppy.

That being said, I love my bulldog to death and would do anything to keep him happy and healthy.  If you do decide to have him shipped to your home, I highly recommend paying the extra money to have your puppy hand-carried onto the plane by someone from Ferner's or pick it up in person.  We had ours put underneath the plane with the other animals and luggage and I would never do it again.

Positive experience

AUTHOR: Stella08 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, February 19, 2012

My family bought a bulldog puppy from Ferner's Bulldogs in 2008, and our experience was positive. We have an incredibly healthy 4 year old female bulldog. Our vet has commented to us on how healthy she is and how her features are not exaggerated grossly like they can be from bad breeding. She has no breathing problems, her hips are fine, no allergies, nor behavior problems. She is a beloved family pet. I haven't spoken with Jennifer since we purchased our puppy from her four years ago. Actually, I was looking up her website and came across this link on my search results. I felt I needed to sign up for an account and reply that this has not been our experience with Ferner's, as I sit here with my bulldog in my lap. We love her (our dog) so much, I would buy from Jennifer again, hands down.

My girlfriend and I purchased our bully from Jennifer (owner) @ Ferner's in Fall of 2009.  He is AWESOME!  I'd buy another one if I had the kind of cash it takes to get your hands on a good bully.  We spent a long time looking around for good looking English Bulldogs, and they are not easy to find.  When we found Jennifer, she responded to all inquiries promptly and questioned me as well about my intentions for the dog (can't imagine puppy mills care much about where the dog is going).  Once we did receive Winston, he was in great health with all his shots AKC papers etc, as well as a health guarantee for a year (as long as you use a supplement, but still it's an animal warranty).  We did think we had an issue with Winston about 6months in when he developed a limp, but later I found out that he had fallen down the stairs and strained his knee ligaments (girlfriend was afraid to tell me), and he healed up fine.  During the time of injury though, I did contact Jennifer and she was very responsive to all my inquiries.  The vet makes comments about how well he breathes every time we bring him in, and says he expects Winston to live well past the normal life expectancy of the breed because of it.  We absolutely love our Bully, and he is beautiful.  These dogs are a trial though, so if you are a bit of a wimp, you may want to look into a pug or something that requires little to zero maintenance.  With a bully, there is a lot of wrinkle cleaning, tail cleaning, baths, joint supplements etc to keep them in top shape.  But hey, you can get a maintenance free Toyota Corolla, but wouldn't you rather drive a lamborghini that needs the oil changed a little more often?  It's a specialized breed, that does require some special attention.  But the love and companionship you receive from these guys is worth their weight in gold.  We cannot wait to buy him a girlfriend and name her Tulip!  So in closing, I think this guy is probably a local hack that wants to put a dent in Jennifer's good name so he can peddle is crap.  If you believe him, you are missing out on some beautiful dogs!

False Claims

POSTED: Monday, September 13, 2010

He never paid for one dog, so I withheld papers. He then forged AKC papers, essentially stealing ownership... charges are pending.

Said he wanted a pet, but his intentions were to breed the dogs, I would not give him breedings papers, he also breeds pit bulls.

Still kicking myself for doing business with this guy, should have seen the signs.

I did accidentally send him the wrong picture AFTER he picked up the puppy then sent him the correct picture.

We provide customer references, breeder references, and vet references.
