Fingerhut shipped the laptop I ordered in a big box with no padding, so it got thrown around during shipping inside the box.  Naturally on first boot the computer crashed.  I fixed it myself and told Fingerhut: 1. The product was abusively packaged 2. I expected compensation for my repairs on the product.  Naturally Fingerhut denied any wrongdoing and stated different corporate policies that protected them but not me.

Fingerhut purchases lots of defective merchandise, pads it with returns and warranties and cycles it through their unsuspecting customers as though it were new and functional and makes maybe a 2x-10x markup profit.  In my case I got one of their disfunctional laptops which they may have bought for $50 each and sold for $500, but on their ledger they would have recorded they bought the laptop for $250 and sold it for $500 to misrepresent profits and avoid taxes.  Fingerhut cheats the consumer, they cheat the government, and now they've cheated me.  As I continue to make payments on the laptop, the money they owe me is mounting.  If the Better Business Bureau doesn't resolve this, I am in the market for a prosecuting attorney.

Its unfortunate, but its being banged around in transit is a common problem with online shipping. As for ANY costs you think they owe you, you have to be able to PROVE the amount your charging. They will fall back on "Initial setup". As there is always some form or issue intergrating any component into your existing network. So unless your a certified PC tech with a business and the ability to draw up a actual reciept, and not one you just print out to prove your point, you wont get very far with them. Now the packaging in the laptop itself is extremly durable. So theres a very good chance your laptop is fine. There is also a very good chance that which ever company that delivered the package could have done a quick repack on it if the original box was damaged in the distribution center. There would be a sticker somewhere on the delivered package stating its been repacked.

Im interested in your claims that FingerHut is doing as you suggested. Do you have any real proof to back these claims or is this just your version of what you think they do. Can you either post photos of what you described or video of some sort. Both of these would go a long way towards getting you any legal help nessasary.

The BBB WILL NOT HELP YOU IN ANY WAY. You have a complaint that you dont feel the packaging job was done correctly. And that you had to do repairs yourself. Unless you can furnish both proof of the incorrectly packaged product or a service invoice from a reputable business that you are a customer of, your complaint will be dismissed as those of someone who just likes to complain. Sorry to tell you this, but unless you can back up your claims, youre wasteing your time. If the laptop works fine then just be happy you didnt get actually shafted.

Just where do you get all of your proof that they are reporting to the Government that they purchased $50 laptops for $250?     By the way if you are really complaing about the markup of their products of 2x-10x.  Can you please tell me where I can find a store selling a $100 laptop(per you that would be what your laptop at a $50 cost with a 2x Markup).  Then if you can tell me one...then why didn't you buy it from them?

By the way exactly what did you "repair" and just how much compensation do you want for your "repairs"?
