Claimed I owed $1,200 to Citibank, who turned it over to them for collection. All lies.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

record calls and file a complaint against them

AUTHOR: tom - ()

First off I am not an attorney.    I suggest that you file a complaint with your state attorney general consumer protection division.   Forget the BBB.  They are worthless.

you need to research this firm and get an address.  What they want is banking information.  They don't want you to mail payments.  They want to keep you in the blind.  In some cases its fraud or a scam.

record the calls.  recording equipment is cheap.  If you file a complaint with the A.G. office it will help your case.  It could change their behavior.

If you really want to tick them off.  File a complaint with the A.G office in the state they do business.   That will put them on notice that the A.G can take action against them.  If they get enough complaints.

file a complaint also with the Consumer financial protection bureau.  This is a U.S. Government agency.  By filing a complaint you will help yourself and others.  You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.  What ever you do be proactive rather then reactive.  Check your credit reports.  Periodically check the clerk of courts in your area for suits against you.  Sometimes they do sewer service.  Which is where they serve an old address so they can say they served you and get a default judgment against you.  This is a common occurence.  So be proactive.

If they are calling you.  Record the conversation. Never give banking information or verify your social security no.

Good luck to you
