While applying for a home loan i found out that it was reported to the credit bureau that I had late fees with Fleet C C. I have never had any account with them let alone a late fee.
They have my name and social Sec.#, but only reported my account number with nine numbers.
I called their company to let them know there has been a mistake, but could not get in because they kept asking for my seventeen number account. What can I do about these people? They say I owe them 2000 + dollars. Chuck in Kansas

Write them a letter, explaining your situation.
Send it registered mail/return receipt.
The Fleet Name has been involved in many questionable practices. It is all well reported on the internet.
Anyway, you must send it registered/return receipt
for them to ackknowledge your letter.
If they ask you to call some customer service number, don't fall for it.
At the very least they need to provide you with contact info via mail for Fleet Credit Card. Anything written will hold up in court if you need to do that.
If your credit report has a single bad spot, your insurance goes up and all your credit cards will up the APR and/or lower the credit limit too!
