I used to actively participate with Kim Olive and the Fort Benning Area Guide. I run a small business and knew her from years in the Valley Area. Kim has been a realtor for a long time, and we used to cross paths in that world. She started up a facebook page that caught a lot of our attention since she had so many fans. She also started a website (ugly as sin website) to go along with it. Her facebook page appeared to have a massive amount of traffic and fans, and for a lot in the area seems to be a good source of communication.
Since I was active in her networking group, I hired her and her friend for advertisement on their site. I was guaranteed to receive additional advertisements on her facebook page from targeted people associated with Fort Benning and Columbus Georgia. Since the facebook page is the most important part of her reach, it sounded like a great deal. Even after a few months, we didn’t get one single job off of her page. She tried to get us to pay for more, but without any form of return from the first set, it would have been irresponsible to continue.
A year later, I am having dinner with a friend of mine who does a lot in the way of online marketing. He and Kim never really got along, but he doesn’t seem to hold any grudges. He just finds her sad and a bit pathetic. Until that conversation, I didn’t agree with him. He begins to tell me how he found that she is purchasing her facebook fans from a site called fiverr and a solid majority of them are faked accounts. At first I thought he was joking, but he had a way of telling. He showed me how to review and sure enough, he was right. A large portion of the account likes are in Asia and have nothing to do with Fort Benning, Columbus, Phenix City, or anything else in the area. Apparently he had just heard from someone as well and had to look it up too. He couldn’t believe that she was charging people for fake user views.
While he found this to be fairly comical, he didn’t know that I had paid her money for advertisements. I am extremely upset. It’s bad enough that she uses the name Fort Benning Area Guide as a way to try and capitalize off of military members, but to then scam her fellow small business is just inexcusable. Since then I have been posting information of this on her Facebook page with fake accounts of my own to make the public aware of what is going on. I am also surprised that facebook allow her to run this scam.
Yes, I call it a scam. When she is selling ads and claiming they will be viewed by a selectively targeted market, then they should be. They are being engaged with by fake accounts she purchased on FIVERR and SEOClerks. Kim Olive is a scam artist, nothing more. I regret trusting her and want everyone to know what a ripoff Fort Benning Area Guide is.
