I spent a couple of days negotiating a price on a motorhome with Fun Motors.  In the end Rex, my salesperson, told me he could get me a great deal if I was willing to close quickly.  I told him that as soon as we had a deal, I would obtain financing and get there to check out the unit the day before the loan is set to close.  Rex came back with offers on 3 different motorhomes.  All offers seemed fair to me with each coach offering different pluses and minuses.

I recieved the pricing at around 6pm on Tuesday.  I told him I would look it over and get back to him in a day or two.  He said that was fine, but not to wait too long, this deal would not be good next week.  After looking closer at the coaches, I had a few questions.  I called Rex and left a message as well as e-mailing him the list of questions on Wednseday morning.  I didn't hear back, so I called again on Thursday morning.  He was able to answer my questions and send me a final picture that I had requested.

When I recieved the picture, my decision was made and I did a last step of getting a car fax report, then I called and left a message about the coach that I selected and asked what to do next.  He called back later in the evening telling me that I should check my e-mail and that they had another offer on the coach but would honor mine.  He then said that I would have to pay within 1 day (without ever seeing or touching the coach).  I told him that I needed to line up financing and that I would come out before the loan is scheduled to close and if the coach was as it was described then I would garauntee that I would buy it.  He again told me to check my e-mail and that the offer was only good for a quick closing.  He clearly did not want me to see the coach before my closing.

I checked my e-mail and there was nothing there.  I e-mailed him back asking if I was missing something and he replied, that the only e-mail was the picture.  I have no idea why he was so adamant about me checking my e-mail when I left a message saying that I got the pic and wanted the coach.

Later I sent the following e-mail:

Oh OK.  You said last night to check my e-mail I thought you sent something else.   I had seen that before I left you the message after lunch that we wanted to coach.

So where do we stand?  I've got an initial approval on the loan.  They want copies of the signed Bill of sale or purchase agreement and Title (front and back).  You did say that you run all of the coaches through the Texas state inspection.  Has this been done?  Is there an inspection report to go along with this?

I do have to say that I am not comfortable finishing the deal without checking out the coach and test driving it.  I have no problem coming in a day or two before the loan is ready to close and doing this, however, I won't sign off on the money sight unseen.  I hope you can understand that.  You wouldn't let me drive off with the coach with a promise that it will be paid for later.  I'm flying all the way to Texas, so clearly I want the coach.

If it is in as good shape as it appears to be, then there will be no problems.  I'm not going to fly to Texas and then cancel the the deal because some interior light bulbs are out or some other minor issue.  It would have to be something majorly wrong.  I assume this is being sold pretty much as is and you aren't going to warranty anything on the coach once I leave.  Is this incorrect?

After sending this e-mail, I never heard back from Rex again.  I've sent a couple of e-mails and left phone messages.  I also left messages with the main number and the number for Clint, who claims to be the owner, at a number left in another report on this site.  It has now been 4 days since I agreed to purchase the coach with no word from them.

I am now out $55.54 for the carfax report and more importantly, in the time that has passed, all other coaches that I was looking at from other sources have been sold.  I am now stuck either buying nothing, or getting something less desirable or for more money.

Unfortunately, I didn't find this site with other complaints about this dealer before contacting them.  I would highly reccomend that they are avoided.

They made it right....

After filing this report, I received the following e-mail:

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello,

We saw your report... I am the supposed owner of Funmotors.  Rex put his personal phone as well as our work phone on the bumper of his car while locking up office.. he then drove away with both phones on his bumper.... needless to say they were both ran over and destroyed.  He then the next day quit with no notice!!  (he was experiencing personal problems).. several of our phone lines forwarded to the work cell he had, it took time to replace phone, retrieve passwords, as well as our work load doubled.  Sorry you were inconvenienced, please call Charlies cell at 830 743 6147 .. if no answer please try back, or email me directly at info@packratsa.com  He quit saturday, Monday he had changed the password to his email accts???  we were just able to get in,   I guess he really showed us for giving him a job, ... lost sales, changed passwords, destroyed phones, double workload and negative internet feedback that will be with us forever!

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I decided to at least give them a chance to explain and talked to Charlie.  He was very apologetic and offered a discount on the coach (for my troubles) if I was still interested.  After talking to him, I decided that I would give them I try.  He told me to come on in, check out the coach, then decide if I wanted it.  I took the risk and flew to San Antonio and the coach checked out great.    Charlie has also been very helpful answering questions that have come up since arriving home with the coach.  In the end I purchased and am happy with the transaction.
