Gary S. Burroughs has scammed me out of $2600 dollars. After consulting Gary S. Burroughs about doing my taxes, Gary S. Burroughs had quoted me $700-$1000. This was the highest quote I had ever had from any CPA or tax service. Gary S. Burroughs then asked for a retainer which was very unusual for any accountant to be asking for. Since Gary S. Burroughs was a friend of a friend I went ahead and took his advise and moved forward with doing my taxes through him.
After knowing Gary S. Burroughs for a few months I felt I could trust his advise and Gary S. Burroughs as an honest person. This was my biggest mistake, I should have read other reviews by other people Gary S. Burroughs scammed in past years.
Shortly after that Gary S. Burroughs had come to me asking for a loan because he had gone into someone's account without their consent and took money out of that persons account. This resulted in that person going to the Oregon Board of Accountancy and Gary S. Burroughs CPA, LLC was going to lose his CPA license due to a fraudulent act. This should have been a major red flag to not do business with this scammer. Gary S. Burroughs told me this because he wanted to borrow $5000 dollars to give back to the client so they would not go through with the complaint to the Oregon Board of Accountancy and so he wouldnt lose his license.
Gary S. Burroughs proposed that I lend him the money and in return Gary S. Burroughs would write the loan as a retainer for doing my taxes and be able to give me a write off on the 2012 tax year for the $5000 dollars. Gary S. Burroughs assured me that if I could do this favor for him he would pay me back $4300.00 ($5000 - $700 for doing my taxes = $4300) and I could claim this as income for tax year 2013. I saw this as a benefit because I could delay the taxes for another year on that money.
So April 2013 came around and I asked for my $4300 back and Gary S. Burroughs said that he didn't have any money and that he needed until May 2013 to get the money together. I had no choice but to wait. When that date came Gary S. Burroughs then said his other clients had not paid him yet so Gary S. Burroughs was not able to pay me any money. This went on for two more weeks. I then got an attorney and gave Gary S. Burroughs a demand letter stating I was going to take him to small claims court.
Gary S. Burroughs showed up at my office with a check for $1700 dollars. Gary S. Burroughs had put together an inflated invoice (scam) for services that I did not even ask for and claimed that it was $3300 for doing my taxes and other bogus services in an attempt to take advantage of me.
After looking online I saw that other people have had the same type of scam pulled on them by Gary S. Burroughs CPA, LLC. If you come in to contact with Gary S. Burroughs for services RUN AWAY FAST. Do not do business with this scammer. Action is being taken against Gary S. Burroughs and we will be using everything in our power to make sure that Gary S. Burroughs CPA, LLC does not run his scam on other people.
AGAIN: DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH GARY S. BURROUGHS CPA, LLC - He will try and take your money
