Gateway And MPC, Gateway sold warranties to MPC who has filed Chapter 11 and you can not get hold of them. Gateway is washing their hands clean of helping with computers that don't work under warranty. They aren't even trying to help consumers get their computers fixed. Internet

Oct. 2008 I called Gateway to report my laptop screen was not working. It is under warranty until Jan. 2010. They informed me they sold my warranty to a company called MPC.

I called MPC and they were going to send me the items I needed to ship and they were happy to fix it. These shipping items never arrived. 3 calls later I get a recording they filed Chapter 11 and to go to this website or fax number to contact them. The website didn't exist and no one contacted me after the fax.

I called Gateway and they basicaly said tough luck we sold it to MPC and it is not our problem.

I took it to Circuit City to get fixed and they say it will cost $900 to fix and isn't worth it. I am waiting for them to get it back to me before it disappears.

I have been without my laptop since 10/08 and it is under warranty, cost over $2K, and now I may need to purchase another one in these tough economic times.

Gateway needs to step up to the plate and help their customers. This is my 3rd Gateway and my last. I will let everyone I know be informed about this poor service and rip off.

All is not lost

Karen,

First off, I must defend Gateway in its current form. Gateway was sold in pieces to multiple companies. The portion of the company that serviced your laptop was purchased by MPC, which is now defunct. Acer purchased a different section and still uses the Gateway name. Acer should not get the blame for the actions of another company.

Now, as I titled this, you may be in luck. Many, if not all, of those warranties were underwritten. Of course, it took time after the bankruptcy proceedings to set up a servicing center. Who was the underwriter?

AIG

Yes, all that tax money used to keep this company afloat may actually help you out after all.

Here is the number to see if you are covered.

877-455-4306

Good luck.
