In December 2014 a gentleman came to the door to offer carpet cleaning at no cost or obligation. He stayed at the house for over an hour until I got home. He was attempting to sell us a Kirby cleaning system. My husband got the chance to get to know him. He talked about his wife, his kids, and that he's a fireman.

I had no intention of buying a Kirby vacuum, it was a very large and sudden expense. I honestly told them we could not afford it right now, these kinds of things are what we save up for. After saying no several times his "team leader" came to the house and got on the phone seeming to make a deal with someone. Then they offered 1,200 and we didn't have to pay it until April. He said that way you would have time to save up for it.

I told him I could not open any more credit lines, but they said it wouldn't go on my credit report (1st lie) I asked them will this be earning any interest until April, and they said "no" (2nd lie) They told me the interest rate which was in the 20's and I was taken back, but they said you won't pay any of that until April. (2nd lie... again)  The paperwork said the first payment was due in March, I inquired about April and they said "We'll be processing a rebate for the first payment" (3rd lie) They begged me to take "the last vacuum they had" and then they let slip that they had one more demonstration to do that night.. (4th lie)

in all honesty as I look back I'm very upset with myself for even letting this happen and not seeing through what they were doing. And what's very unfortunate is that they had me sign a contract. Even with interest on there they explained that it would not be posted on my account until April.

I just recieved the bill. $714 in interest. So now I do not have money for my son's first birthday party. Now I don't have the money I saved for our vacation this summer. I'm infuriated and ashamed and angry. I called the company and they just said "there's nothing we can do, you signed the contract". It sure is easy to hide behind your lies when there is a contract.

DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY!

made some phone calls

AUTHOR: daynak426 - ()

POSTED: Saturday, February 28, 2015

So, first I called your customer advocate center, they weren't extremely helpful. They basically said they couldn't handle anything and were actually a little confused as to why i would call them. They said I should call the finance company. So I called the company I was financed through and spoke with a young man there. I explained the situaiton and asked if they had a record of the phone call to me. While we did not exactly listen to the phone call what I did find out is that all the verbage is very veiled. All he said was the representative confirmed $1,200 financed, no payment until April. They said NOTHING about an interest rate and what that rate was, they said NOTHING about it accruing interest in the meant time. Which to me is not full disclosure, and when I inquired as to why they left out all of that extremely valuable information,

he said that they are only required to state what is written in the contract by the Kirby distributer... which comes back to you. He did however state that he would escalate the case to his management team to see what can be done for me, because for ONCE I got a hold of someone who realized that this is WRONG. I'm still left holding the bag between two companies who were never clear with me. One being completely MISLEADING and the other doing as little as possible to gain my paid interest. So the valued, well supposedly valued, customer is left out in the cold. I will continue to put this story out there to as many outlets as possible until someone can reach out to me and provide an actual solution, because thusfar I've been passed around and told nothing.

contact Consumer Relations

POSTED: Wednesday, February 25, 2015

Hello,

We appreciate the opportunity to respond and understand your frustrations surrounding your sale and subsequent financing of the Kirby system.

As you may be aware, the Kirby home care system is sold through authorized, independent distributorships such as GPD.   When you agreed and signed the agreement to purchase a Kirby system, the financial company holding the loan should have made contact with you and verified the terms of the financial agreement which will include any same as cash or deferred payment options.  They normally record those conversations.

If you wish to discuss your sale, please feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Department at 800-494-8586, Monday through Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Eastern Time.    We look forward to speaking with you.
