I bought a new 2001 Chevrolet Impala 2 years ago. The transmission broke down beyond repair with only 44,000 miles on it. I just had to pay $2740.00 to have a rebuilt transmission put in it GM refuses to pay any of it.

The warranty was 3 years or 36,000 miles. If anything happens after that you are out of luck.It doesn't matter that any decent vehical can be assumed to have a transmission that should last at least 100,000 + miles and Chevrolet advertises heavily about the quality and dependability of their vehicles.

This car has had a number of other problems as well. The first thing was the brakes. The rotors warped at 13,000 miles GM wouldn't fix them under warranty,. The said that was normal wear and tear.At 33,000 miles I had to pay for new rotors because the originals could not be turned again. That cost me $300.00.

The steering has a knock in it which I am told by the dealer is a common problem on these new Impalas. They told me GM has come up with a "fix" for it with some engine shims and a special lubrication for the steering column. It seems to me if they had to come up with a fix they should not be triing to charge me $350.00 to do it.

I had to take my car to the shop last month because the check engine light was on and the engine (I thought) was making a whining sound. I was charged $130.00 to have the cars computer program updated to stop faulty sensor reading. Another "fix"

The trouble is, It was the transmission making the whine, but the diagnostic computer didn't pick that up. 2 weeks later my transmission died.

GM does not stand behind its products. They are manufacturing alot of junk. They hide behind a maze of customer assistance people where pass the buck and take no responsibility when there is a problem with your vehicle. Don't buy GM!!!!!!!!!!!!
