I went on-line to find a hotel room to book.  I stumbled onto the site for "getaroom" when i was looking for a reasonably priced room.  I had never booked a room on-line before so I thought I'd give this a try because the room seemed very well priced.  The site asked me to sign in so I did.  After submitting all of the required information to book the room, I received an error message stating that the booking was not successful because I may have entered my credit card safety code number wrong and to try again.  I tried again with the same card and received the same error message.  At that point, I decided to try using a different card in case there was a problem with that particular card.  I used my visa debit card to try again and this time I received a message stating that there was an error with the room.  Instead of trying on-line again, I decided to call their customer service number directly so that getaroom could book it for me.  I explained to the customer service rep what had just happened when I tried to book the room and she was willing to do it for me.  After giving her all of the needed information, she was just about to give me a confirmation # when she saw an error message on her screen.  She explained to me that the specific low price for that hotel room was no longer valid and offered to transfer me to someone else in customer service that might be able to help me get the room.  After being transfered, I spoke with a gentleman who advised me that he was going to check my credit card number to see if a booking had indeed taken place and that maybe he could get a confirmation number for me.  When he returned to the phone, he advised me that there was no confirmation number and that he could see that I had already tried twice to book the room and could try to find another room with a comparable price but that I already had two charges pending!  At that point in the conversation I tried to understand what he was telling me and I was floored when I found out that he could not reverse the charges pending and I would have to wait until they just dropped off automatically in 24-48 hours.  I never booked a room from them, yet somehow they held my money captive for two days.  As a result, I incurred overdraft charges on my bank account.

I feel that this was a huge ripoff because I was never told that they were actually taking my money even though the booking had not gone through.  There is no fine print that I could find either stating that this would happen.  I would like this company to somehow put a disclaimer on their sign up page stating that their cards will be charged for every attempt made to book a room whether a booking was successful or not so that more unsuspecting people like myself do not have this problem again.
