My experience with this woman has only been short. But even the shortness of it has put me in such a mess.

First off, I am a young, inexperienced home renter, looking for a basement suite that would accomadate me and my kitty. After countless searches and failed veiwings (because places don't accept cats or boyfriends) I stumbled upon Gloria's ad for her basement suite - going at a reasonable price, pets allowed and available for the beginning of August or sooner - which worked for me because I am attending school again come September. 

I got in contact with her fairly soon, and I was quite excited, as the place seemed to sound good and I was running out of time to finally get a place. I was shown the place, not by Gloria, but by one of her 'workers' and it was severly run down. Some of the ceiling was coming off, the carpet was disgusting, the floor had rotten sub-floor and was weak and creaky, there was a terrible odour in the place (and the fridge serisouly smelt like something continued to rot in it, even though it was 'cleaned'), the entire place was in sevre need of a new paint job and it all needed to be cleaned. When I explained this to Gloria she assured me it was going to be all fixed up when I decided to put a deposit on it and then move in.

I kept looking around, but by the second last week of July, I knew I needed to do something and called her again, agreeing to take the place.

That's when I noticed alot of sketchy things. Now, before you continue reading this, I do understand that alot of this was voluntarily my choice, and I am extremly inexperienced at this. I'm sure I might have deserved this for being so naive, but because she prayed on me and my inexperience, I am nothing but furious and just want help and answers. I want to document all of this so I can use it against her and use it to help others about to get trapped in her web!

First, she had alot of different phone numbers, a couple for Edmonton, one for B.C., a couple for Ontario and on most of the voicemails, she never left her full name (or no name at all) just the phone number you called. Next she told me I had to put the deposit (of $780.00 - same as rent) down on the place, but she was really pushing me to use e-transfer. Also around this time, she was insistant that I set up electricity for the place and begin paying for it right away as 'it could take a while to set up'. I told her I felt uncomfortable with the e-transfer and she then gave me a BMO bank account in which I could put the funds in, I also explained how I was not going to turn on electricity until I was moved in and settled, and she did not like this and continued to comment on it. Once I put the money on the account things went very wrong. 

We agreed to meet up the next week to do keys and lease, but she conviently was 'moving' out of province to B.C. and I had to chase down another one of her 'workers' who happened to be a tenant of hers from another place she owns. This lady was extremely nice and helpful, but very underpaid as Gloria only paid her 40 dollars to clean, view, and travel to all her places. 

Also, Gloria's phone was connected to this lady's and she was complaining that Gloria told her when incoming calls from people she agreed to meet up with came in, she wanted her to ignore them.

The lease was not ready for me when I needed it and I got ahold of a texting number for Gloria which I texted and she proceeded to harass me about the electricity (Why do I need to set it up when I'm not even moved in yet????)

I finally met up with the lady and we took one more look at the place. Little had been done (just the carpets were cleaned) and she had told me when we fill out the lease and then the form where you put in the conditions of the place (not sure what that is called!) it will all be taken care of.

Stupid me, I signed this and then was given a set of keys they kept in a 'lock-box' just outside of the suite. I needed to make copies of the keys then return the other set to this lady.

The next day I was receiving angry voicemails from the lady that gave me the keys. She told me Gloria was mad because she gave me the keys without me paying the deposit or rent and accused me of lying to them.

At this point, Gloria began texting me and accusing me of not paying these things and when I told her I put only the deposit through to the BMO account she asked where I got this account information (she didn't remember giving it to me and said that it can all only be done through an e-transfer) and what day I put it in and how much. I told her and then she began asking about the '2nd' amount (for rent) which I had not put in yet, because I began feeling extremly unccomfortable.

She continued to text me into the night, well beyond 12.am, threatning me that each text she has to send out to get this information will be an additional charge for me.

I began doing my research and found out she is a SLUMLORD! She has done this multiple times to so many people!

I will not be another victom, but unfortunatly, I signed the stupid lease (with the lady NOT with Gloria) but I feel that no harm will come to me (other than Gloria's wrath). It's the long weekend this weekend so nothing can be done until Tuesday - which I will post a part 2, for to document what happened and how the issue was solved for anyone else that has to deal with Gloria Klopfstien.

If you have any helpful advice for me, please help! I am trying to get in contact with the lady that gave me the keys so I can give them back and say I will speak to Gloria on Tuesday during normal business hours, I'm not moving in.
