Complaint Summary
Complaint Type: Consumer to Business Complaint
Nature of complaint: The services provided resulted in additional damage
Problem description:
Let start off by saying that I have been with Godaddy for about 10 years, a loyal customer since 08/08/2006. I have enjoyed their products and services up until the last 2 years and since then their services have made me think I have been caught up in some sort of bait and switch game.

I own approximately 30 domains, I host another 10 or so domains for my customers. When I first started with godaddy I was sold shared hosting. After about 5-6 years I was told that shared hosting was being phased out and that I would have to move ALL of my websites over to 4gh hosting.

This is NOT an easy task when everything you have is on a content management system. There are static folder files, databases, directories, ip addresses, domain name servers and more that have to be backed up, moved, re-installed, changed and more. One (1) website can take up to 5 days to switch over from one hosting account to another and it is generally down for the same amount of time thus you lose business if they are business websites.

Leading up to the first hosting account change (from shared or legacy to 4gh) my websites would go down intermittently from hours to days for no apparent reason and when calling into tech support they would tell me things like, the DNS has changed (for some reason), you need to change it in your account, or the IP has been changed (for some reason) and you need to go into your account and change it, your htaccess file has mysteriously disappeared, you need to ftp in and create a new one, etc etc.. while also telling me that if I moved ALL my stuff over to 4GH hosting, that would fix it and I wouldn't have these legacy problems anymore. Now keep in mind that they never actually ever closed down the shared or legacy hosting,

I still have a legacy hosting account even after I purchased an additional 4GH hosting account. I never got all my websites transferred over to the 4GH hosting account because I don't have an extra 6 months of nothing else to do to get it done. For the last two weeks, all my sites that I had transferred over to 4GH hosting have been intermittently going down due to too many open connections from Godaddy's own internal traffic.

When I call in to try and figure out why and how is there to much internal traffic they tell me that they are having problems with 4gh hosting and I really should get a greater , newer c-panel hosting account which I would again have to manually transfer over all my websites to, and doing this would probably rectify these types of problems, like my websites going down. One website has been down for over two weeks, but after calling into tech support, has mysteriously started working again - this is after the tech blamed the problem on my end claiming it was a plugin in one of my wordpress sites. I never touched a thing but that "unknown plugin" problem was as mysteriously gone as it had come.

My Solution: After calling into tech support again to offer a solution that would keep my business after being so wrongly supported the first time my offer was quite simple. If you want me to understand that I need to switch all my stuff over to c-panel hosting, after I have switched over 1/2 my stuff already to 4gh hosting thus having my stuff scattered everywhere, not to mention all the down time that would ensue and also not to mention the extra fees that would once more be incurred from having to pay for THREE (3) hosting accounts whilst trying to get everything switched over... Why don't you guys do this for me since what you have been selling me does not operate as advertised to begin with. Give me one month of hosting on the shared, one month on 4gh and one month on this new c-panel (which would all total maybe $40) and I will try my hardest to get everything switched over from the other two accounts in that time frame and won't take my business to someone else that might or might not do me the same way.

Doesn't matter if I change hosts at this point, everything will be down for about the same amount of time

They said NO. Can you believe that? I know I can't.

So, if they think that I won't spend today and tomorrow and maybe all of next week posting all this everywhere whilst I wait for my dns servers to propagate - think again. And how do they still have a A+ rating with the BBB? They have hundreds of complaints that get closed seemingly the same day they are opened. How does that work? I had one complaint at the BBB in all my 22 years in business (by a competitor no less who just made everything up) - it took the BBB almost two weeks to get it closed after finding in my favor!

Desired Settlement: Complimentary Service
Desired Outcome:

Now the offer is: One month service on the (2) old hosting accounts and 6 months free on the new c-panel hosting. Tomorrow (monday), I will accept (1) year, (tuesday) will be (2) years, etc etc. But being that they can somehow shut down complaints at the BBB so quickly I suppose I will have to settle for 6 months to a year of free c-panel hosting.
