Is this the first time you have ever purchased a vehicle? It sounds like it. When you buy a vehicle and you don't have cash to pay for the entire purchase, then you get a loan. The $1000 is a down payment on the purchase. The tax, tag, and title are normal additions to the cost of the vehicle. The payment amount is based on the amount you borrow. The amount you borrow is subject to interest, and that interest rate is based on your creditworthiness.
If you fail to make your payments on time, then the lender can repossess the collateral. Once the vehicle is repossessed you lose not only all the down payment funds and the payments you made, but you also are responsible for the rest of the deficiency balance due after your vehicle is sold at auction. From your description, that is what happened to you. In no way would you be entitled to get any money back for the purchase of the vehicle, after all, you are the one that defaulted on the contract.
Also, all of us have to pay insurance on our vehicles. There was nothing in your complaint that showed that this dealership was unethical. You are the one that stopped making payments. Don't buy anything else until you research your responsibilities before you borrow money.
