Greater Spokane Construction Mark Andrews Rude, Incompetent, Threatening/Harrassing, Overcharges, Intimidation, Unsatisfactory work, Fails to fufill the contract Newman Lake Washington

We hired Greater Spokane Construction to refurbish our roof that was damaged in a windstorm.  just about every shingle Mark and his crew installed was misagligned and made the entire roof look terrible.  After the first rainstorm, which happened right after they finished, we had leaking -consistently underall of the areas that they worked on.  This is the first time that roof ever leaked -even with the temporary tarps, it never leaked.  We called for a meeting with Mark both for what he left our roof looking like aesthetically and to get the leaks fixed.  He pushed back, saying their work was excellent, and that the leaks were coming from something like broken water pipes in the house. 

Obviously, we didn't buy these excuses and decided to withold Mark's final payment, which was actually an overcharge -where he claimed the roof was steeper than anticipated, making it hard for him and his crew to work.  We still disagree with this, as he came out to bid the work, and saw the roof.  After informing him of witholding his payment until the work was made satisfactory, Mark became enraged -threatening us with lawsuits, that his father is an attorney, that he'd make our lives a "living hell" for as long as it took, and that he will show up in the next week if not paid in full to tear out all of the roofing they installed.  There were days where Mark would drive by our house two or three times a day, passing by very slowly, staring at us. 

My husband wasn't swayed by this behavior, and did confront Mark during one of his drive-bys.  After a very heated discussion, my husband was able to calm Mark down and persuade him to come back to fix the leaks.  The roof isn't leaking anymore to this point, but the superficial repairs Mark made don't have our confidence -as we suspect water still getting under the shingles but not penetrating inside the house.  The roof still looks like someone with no roofing experience whatsoever installed it.  We unfortunately are going to hire a legitimate contractor to fix the mess Greater Spokane Construction left us. 

We ended up paying Mark his overcharge, as we weren't sure of what he might be capable of doing if he remained angry at us.  In the end, we feel we've essentially been bullied into paying almost twice as much for work that wasn't even fulfilled in the contract.

We can never recommend Greater Spokane Construction for any type of work after this experience.  The lessoned learned for us is to always do as extensive background check as you can when hiring a contractor.
