I received a call from a tele-a-marker asking what kind of printer I have and how her company was offering a special on toner.  I was told that if I bought 2 toner cartridges, I’d get a third for free.  She also said they would throw in some promotional items (pens).  I don’t know what I was thinking.   I’ve heard of this scam before, but I guess they caught me on an off day.   Anyway, I agreed even though the toner was pretty pricey.  They said it cost more because it last longer and they offer a two year guarantee.  Well the 3 toners arrived, but I didn’t use it because the toner I have currently have in the printer is still good.  Later I received the bill for an outrageous amount of $439.76.  I could have sworn they quoted me a price of $167; instead the bill was for $183.99 per cartridge ($367.98 for two) plus a $71.76 shipping and handling fee.  I felt so stupid, but I suck it up and paid with my credit card.  I just wanted to be done with it.

However a week later someone from the same company called to ‘follow up’ and she says ‘the other six cartridges will be on the way’.  That was shock enough since I didn’t agree to purchase nine toner cartridges, but then she says the total amount is $1200.  That’s on top of the $439.76 I’ve already paid.  I was absolutely floored.  After some back and forth, she said she would give me a break and knock $200 off the price.  I relented, but was worried sick about how would I pay $1000 for toner cartridges?  What was I going to do with 9 boxes of toner when I only have one printer and worse yet, how was I going to explain how stupid I was for letting my guard down?  After I thought about it, I decided to look up this company, Green tech Imaging and I found they have a history of this kind of scam and they have numerous complaints against them.  I called Green Tech a few days later and told them I never agreed to this purchase (in the original call) and I wanted to cancel the order.  The representative said they would not have sent it without my permission (note: the representative never gave me the option to refuse the six additional toner purchase; I felt like I had no choice but to accept it).  Furthermore the shipment was on its way.  I told her when it gets here, I will be refusing delivery.  She did give me tracking number so that I knew when to expect it.  It came and went today.  I am hoping this will be the last I ever hear of this company.

Frankly I don’t know why they are allowed to operate with so many complaints against them.  I am writing this because I hope that not only will someone learn from my mistake, but it may finally convince the powers that be to shut this kind business down and punish these scammers.
