Just over 7 years ago my husband and I purchased our first home. At age 20, we knew no better. But knowing what I do now, I never would have purchased a manufactured home.

At the time of purchase, the credit company was GreenPoint. Documents looked cut and dry but little did we know that these papers would be picked up by mortgage company Green Tree Servicing.

After Green Tree purchased the original documents, the headaches began. First off, we were never informed of the change until months after even though payments continued to go through GreenPoint.

Soon after, we would receive harassing phone calls when payment was only days late. Although payment may have already been in the mail, the creditors did not care. They threatened and were quite harassing.

We learned, pay at least two weeks early. Even then we would get calls stating we had not paid. Come to find out, payment had been received, just not applied to our account until after the due date. I guess that was so late fees could be attached to the next months bill.
When we bought our new home, we found several different buyers for our manufactured home. Because our original contract said that the loan was assumable, we made attempts to sell the property this way. Come to find out, Green Tree does not assume loans nor take new applicants. Yet, the company explained that our original contract did not change when companies did. How could this work for them, but not for me?

After 3 years of arguing over selling our property and losing numerous buyers, Green Tree now tells us that in the past 7 years we have only paid off $1,000. How could this be, we have paid over $25,000, but our loan amount only dropped by $1,000? This sounds rather fishy to me.
Now we sit ready to pay the darn thing off, but Green Tree is trying to avoid any attempt at doing so. Pretty funny considering our original contract said no prepayment penalties. But I guess this is another change at whim contract dispute as decided by Green Tree.
I have never had such a hard time giving anyone $35,000. In fact, we have recently paid off a vehicle loan, ATV loans and a boat loan early and these financial institutions sure didn't turn down our money. Why is Green Tree? Because that's one less customer they can continue to scam.
