An error by Green Tree left my home uninsured for a week, and Green Tree's only tried to make money off their mistake.

In early 2013, Bank of America sold the "servicing rights" of my mortgage to Green Tree.

In November, I received standard notice from my homeowner's insurance that payment was due December 2; that payment is, of course, payable by the mortgage company from the escrow of my account.

On December 5, I received notice from the insurance company that my policy was cancelled because no payment was received.

I spoke with Green Tree staff who told me that payment had been made. The staff would tell me the amount and the date of payment, but not to whom it was submitted.

When I got the insurance company to speak with Green Tree directly, I later learned from the insurance agent that Green Tree admitted paying the wrong insurance company. The (actual) insurance company said that because Green Tree could not offer any time when the payment would actually be received, my policy was thereby dropped - it would not be accepted as a rollback (making sure I had coverage during that period) because of the erraticness of Green Tree.

When I followed up with Green Tree, I was told that they would not pay the actual insurance company until it received refund from the company it had paid by mistake.

When I explained that this left my home without insurance, and during a time of year when many claims could be made due to seasonal weather, I was told that if my home was damaged, Green Tree would *consider* covering the damage -- but only after I submitted application for it to carefully review.

I reminded the representative that, if such damages were to occur, that it would be Green Tree's fault for their lack of insurance, I was then told that I could buy temporary insurance coverage directly from Green Tree. In other words, Green Tree attempted to profit from its own mistake.

After one week without homeowner's insurance -- during which was my area under tornado watch for almost 24 hours, too -- Green Tree finally paid the correct insurance company. And although a representative of the company promised that I would be informed when the payment was made, it did NOT. The payment was made to the insurance company on a Friday afternoon, which my insurance agent couldn't confirm with me until the following Monday.

Today, about two weeks after this began, I received a letter from FEMA; my flood insurance plan has not been paid, it says. My insurance agent through whom that insurance is received confirmed it. When I called Green Tree again, its representatives only say that the payment was made yesterday --- they won't tell me to whom the payment was made, claiming that they don't have that information.
