On August 17, 2012 after spending about another $50 in the store, we had to place some tool bags on rain-check. Normally they sell for $6.99, they were on sale for $4.99. The girl made out the rain-check, gave us the CUSTOMER COPY and said to call Wednesday, Aug. 21th, 2012 after the truck comes in on Tuesday. I began calling every other to every third day for two weeks.
Now their rain-checks are suppose to be placed in the computer so the held merchandise does not get sold to anyone else. At least that's what we've been told by the store during past rain-checks (and there's been a few - they don't restock very often).
On Sunday Sept. 2, 2012, I called, they said they were in. I said we were on our way down. About 1/2 way down we realized we forgot the rain-check slip (Not the first time it's happened either). We figured, since they all knew us it wouldn't be a problem. At least it hadn't been in the past.
The bags were waiting for us behind the counter. We did some more shopping and rang up an extra $50.00 in merchandise. The tool bags rang up at regular price and I caught it. The girl (a new girl we had never seen before) went to (we assumed was a store manager) an older woman (whom also we had never seen before). She walks over and says she needs the number. So I give her the SKU#. She begins arguing with me that she needs the number off of the paper. I explained to her that was the number. Never once checking the computer for the rain-check.
I politely told her we forgot it and couldn't she just look it up on the computer. She began yelling at me that she couldn't do anything without that paper. We have never ever been treated that way as long as we had been coming to this store. We walked out and left ALL the merchandise on the counter.
The store manager was RUDE and DID NOT WANT TO DO HER JOB. Harbor Freight has now lost a loyal regular customer over $12.00. And the worst part is they don't give a hoot!
