I ordered once before from these rip-offs and did not get the free shipping they'd advertised and figured I'd done something wrong on my order form.

Since then, Heartland America has become my big email buddy. Mid December I rec'd their Christmas Specials Promotion. In it they offered me $50.00 Heartland Dollars Card for any purchase over $200.00.

The email featured a big propane generator for $499.99 I clicked on the link which took me to their website. Directly below the generator's picture was a big yellow arrow pointing to the generator with red letters in it that read "FREE SHIPPING".

I placed it in my shopping cart and saw the $1.99 order handling charge. I figured it should be $499.99 + $1.99 order handling = $501.98
> less the $50.00 Heartland Dollars Card** when you spend $200.00 for a
> total charge to my credit card of = $451.98 When I got the total, it read $591.93

I figured that this would probably be handled when they processed the order. BUT JUST TO BE SURE, I wrote the above figures and this note in the box for instructions: "If you do not come to the same total as this, please cancel my order due to false and misleading information and send me confirmation."

I placed my order and withing 5 minutes they emailed me a confirmation stating the charge to my credit card would be $591.93 I immediately called their order line and they told me that it takes 2 to 3 hrs for the other dept to update the information and to call back then. I called back 3 hrs later and was told it hadn't been processed yet to call back the next day.

When I called back a day later, they told me that the generator had ALREADY BEEN SHIPPED and all I could do was to refuse the shipment. This means you have to catch the UPS guy when he comes, great! I wound up putting a big sign out front for the UPS guy telling him I didn't want the generator. He comes regularly and I told him about it also. (I live in a rural area).

I also finally received a reply to my email contesting their false claims of FREE SHIPPING, here's their reply: "We checked your account and you received reduced regular shipping and $19.95 in overweight shipping. The e-mail offer is for free/ reduced shipping and $50.00 Heartland Dollars card. The order total is $591.93."

TWO WEEKS LATER I receive an email from Heartland America saying: "YOUR ITEM WAS SHIPPED TODAY and gave me a UPS tracking #. THEY HAD STRAIGHT OUT LIED TO ME when they said it had already shipped when I tried to cancel.

I refused the delivery and still have not received the $591.93 credit to my credit card. THESE PEOPLE ARE CROOKS DO NOT BUY FROM THEM

WOW

WOW.

First of all, each and every catalogue says free or reduced shipping. It says that because over sized items may have addl. overweight charges. Your big propane generator is huge and it had addl. shipping charges.  most items do not have a shipping charge.

Second, your order processing fee is the lowest one there is so that was reduced. On average the proc. fee is between 2.99 and 3.20 for MN. There is also only tax in 3 states. MN, SD, and NV.  Other than that which is listed on the cat, there is nothing "extra". If anything is added you gave permission for it. All calls are monitored.

Third, I think its insane to agree to pay for something if the price is incorrect. Also heartland doesn't do all this run around with "if this price is correct send me the item and if its not send my money back", if you were so curious you needed to call the phone line, you not only would have had special sales but you would have known exactly what the total was and why. Then there would have been no confusion.

You are responsible for the way you shop.

Don't order if the total is wrong.

You thought they would work the price out when they processed it? Who's they? The computer that's going to instantly take that information and charge you for it when you click ok? There's no human involved! The notes are for the shipping company and for AFTER you've paid for it. Please get a clue!

It's awful they gave you the run around on the cancellation and refunding of money. The trick they played with shipping charges is a little dirty too... but come on. You had the total and it was wrong and you still clicked ok. Not much of a scam.
