I was a single mom seeking to further my education by attending college with the understanding that I would qualify for grants that would cover the expenses to do so. In 2003-2004 I attended the private college of High Tech Institute. I had returned to school to become a certified Medical Assistant and was also promised during their 15 month program that I would earn my associates of medical science. I completed all course training and was doing "check offs" prior to the promised "unpaid" externship that needed to be completed when an instructor noted a "rash" on my hand. This rash was eczema. I was told that I had to take a medical leave of absence tabs see a dermatologist and was not allowed to return without it being handled, treated and or unless a doctor stated it was non contagious. I then saw a dermatologist and he wrote a letter stating it was ezemia and not contagious but if the school had any concern they could have me finish wearing a glove on the infected hand.

The school decided a doctors note and or diagnosis was not good enough and since it hand not cleared up I was out of time for leave they were taking it upon themselves to terminate my student status. They provided me with a letter of termination stating I was being terminated as a student due to a "contagious" medical condition. I tried to dispute it but had no recourse. The grants I received turned into a $17,000 student loan And no degree or higher education to assist in repayment. I maintained a 4.0 for all but two months of my time there and instead of an education I was rewarded with LOANS I cannot afford to repay. I believe there was some scam behind this school and that people should be very Leary of putting theit faith into a school that recruits with many false promises and then has no respect for medical opinion. I have saved the termination letter and intend on asking for further review But have little hope that anything will come of it.
