here is how any home warrany works.  first most will cover items if they are maintained, properly installed and not abused by human and animal meaning not normal wear n tear.  repairs on any ac or furnace which is a rather small repair usually are fixed right away but beware that they work on who is the lowest cost per claim contractor which usually means the guys getting most of calls are costing the warranty  company less money usually by denying claims.  the better guys get the left overs. also they do not cover everything when you need a new furnace or ac installed, which usually will cost about 500-800 dollars out of your pocket. they do like to shift the blame to the contractors or anyone else but themselves. they lie about anything they have to to make them  look good..  they will repair , repair, repair.  most of the contractors like the ones up high dont know jack about hvac i have seen them do some very crappy work and installs that dont work right.  so think twice about a home warranty you pay around 400 a year you have a deductible each time and things keep breaking so you should just by new equipment as needed from a professional contractor you will save money in the long run.  i have worked for home warranty companies so i know all the tricks and all the wrong doings going on
