A few weeks back my wife and I purchased a new home. In the mail we received a movers pack from the USPS that included a 10% off Lowes coupon. I had heard in the past Home Depot accepted these and since I have always gone to HD I went to my local store to confirm. While in the carpet section we spoke to an associate about getting our place measured and asked about the coupon. I was told it was no problem and that I would just need to bring it with me the day we purchase the carpet.
So fast forward a few weeks; we have our measurement picked our carpet and corrected their layouts. We go into the store to have our carpet purchase printed out, get our appliances ordered and a cart full of other stuff. But when we got to check out we were told that they don't really accept the Lowes coupon. They only accept it to a max discount of $50. Now if they had stated this from the beginning I wouldn't have wasted weeks with them and went to Lowes up the street. I spoke to a mgr that night but got no where. I ended up buying the stuff because I just didn't have time to wait for the process with Lowes and I figured once I spoke to corporate things would get taken care of.
The following Monday I called corporate explained the situation, including being charged for installation when it should be free and was told they would have the store get back to me. Later that day the store offered to remove the installation card and provide a $50 GC. I told them this was unacceptable since the discount should be several hundred dollars. The next (4) days I left voice mail for corporate and never rec'd a call back. That Friday I filed with the BBB.
The following Monday I rec'd a call from someone else at corporate. I sent her copies of other Lowes coupons I had, one of which clearly says the max discount is $1000. Today I rec'd a call back saying she couldn't do anything that their policy is to only give $50 max discount. Again I asked how consumers are to know that when they say accepting the coupon they don't really mean accepting. No answer. She then tried to read the terms of the Lowes coupon indicating that it is only for merchandise, I said fine, I purchased almost 7k in products so give me 10% off that. Then she didn't want to reference the terms anymore. She said she would contact the local store and get back to me.
I believe they tell their employees to purposely mislead the consumer, knowing that most people (like me) after spending countless hours over several weeks picking products and doing research don't have the luxury of spending more time to save a little money.
So long story short, if you get a Lowes 10% off coupon DO NOT GO TO HOME DEPOT! They will not honor this coupon as they say they will and corporate does not have your back.

Just don't even know what to say anymore

AUTHOR: HDnomore - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, February 04, 2013

Last Friday the official word from HD was that they wouldn't do anything. I did finally get them to credit me for the install that was supposed to be free. I thought this was the end of it and I was just going to write it off, but then today they pulled something else. We also purchased appliances and they were originally scheduled to be delivered 1/23. We asked that they postpone the delivery since there were issues with the billing. Since we just decided to move on; my wife called this morning to schedule delivery and was told that we needed to contact the store to reschedule.

So she called Riverdal and spoke to someone in appliances. That person told her that the 9th was avaialable so she took it. A short time later she received a call saying they couldn't deliver because the order was cancelled. She told them that we never cancelled the order so they told her that the order was automatically cancelled after 3 days. So if we wanted delivery on the 9th it would now be $200 more because the sale is over. But again we never cancelled these. So I checked my statement and all recent activity, this credit does not show.

Based on their comments this credit should have been posted by 1/28 the latest. I have sent an email to the woman in corporate I was working with requesting she contact me, but this is just rediculous. As of last Friday when we were discussing the discount I should have received this order was still considered active. If only Lowes carried this brand I would just go there, if HD doesn't do the right thing and honor this order that we never cancelled I will go to (((competitor's name redacted))).

sorry, allowing you to give a competitors name would instigate others to just file against their competition, to only come back later to suggest their company, ..plus, if you post a competitors name more than likely they will show up on search engines as a Rip-off! - - your comments on this policy are welcome. Nothing concrete

AUTHOR: HDnomore - (United States of America)

Can't offer you anything concrete. I had just heard through several websites that HD accepted the coupons so I figured I would give it a shot and since teh sales associate said they did I figured I was good. Also, they have a sign in the entry that says something to the effect of, their sales flyer is our sales flyer. So you get the impression from signs and from sales associates taht they will match deals and they will not. The night I was checking out I did see a sheet of barcodes they were scanning for various discounts. One of which was the Lowes 10%, but again it limits the discount to 50 bucks. If you are only buying a couple of things it is fine but I bought around 7k of stuff, so a big difference between discount received and discount expected.

As far as who drives the discount limit. I do believe it is corporate. The issue has been pushed back to the local store from corporate twice now but the woman from corporate confirmed that they limit their discounts. But they can't keep their story straight, sometimes I hear 50 max other times I have heard 200. Either way it isn't the $1000 max I have from Lowes.

A reference?

I'm not doubting you at all but can you tell me where I can find information on Home Depot honoring Lowes coupon.  I'd like to do that but I can't find any information on it.  Is it a local store thing or is it a corporate thing?

Apparently it didn't work very well for you but I'd like to take a shot at it anyway.
