I came to work for Home Instead Senior Care because I enjoyed working with seniors. I felt that my job was meaningful, and at the end of the day I felt I had done a good deed. But, little did I know that I would be working for nothing.

I took the job with a starting pay of 7.00/hr. I thought, well that is not so bad if you enjoy what your are doing. Most companies have some benefits or compensation for their workers, not this company. They take from your 7.00/hr pay and find ways to pay you less than that.

I worked Christmas Eve from 9pm - 11:30am on Christmas Day, because I was called and asked by the manager to stay until a family member could get there because the patient was not doing well. So I stayed until they arrived at 11:30 am. I was told that I would get paid Holiday pay only the hours worked between 8am Christmas Day to 8pm. So I wrote down 3.5 hours Holiday pay and did not receive it. Instead I get paid a flat rate of 55.00 a night. I worked 4 evening and was never told that the orders were changed.

I was told to stay awake and watch my client for 12 hours awake time because she had been wandering the halls. So I did just that and now they want to take my 84.00 and turn it into 55.00. And there is no formal training. They read you a sheet of paper and send you on your way after 30-45 minutes.

I feel the employees are being neglected and that could lead to the patients being mistreated. I know their clients pay lots of money for their loved ones to be cared for properly and it is very misleading. They are stealing from employees pay. They cannot keep stealing from employees pay.

Please keep in mind that each Home Instead Senior Care franchise office is independently owned and operated.

I apologize that you feel taken advantage of. It is difficult for me to understand the issue you are facing as I work for a Home Instead Senior Care office in California. Due to different laws and regulations, we have different policies in place regarding the number of hours worked and the pay rate according to those shifts.

I would encourage you, if you have not done so already, to speak with either the GM or the franchise owner regarding your situation. Hopefully the issue can be resolved quickly.
