I worked for Home Instead Senior Care in Northbrook and it was the worst agency I have ever worked in my ten years of working for agenicies. The office staff treats you like your a dog. I walked in to fill out an application and I was interviewed on the spot by the owner of the company she signed me up for a orientation class and I just assumed I was hired. This was all within 5 minutes of meeting me. I showed up for this class that was four hours long ( never got paid for this training!!!!!). I didnt receive a call for a month finally someone in staffing called me and offered me a job. It was a Monday-Friday 8am-8pm shift that was 60 hours a week!!!!!! They were paying my 10.00 an hour. After I started I realized that I had been working for over a month and they didnt pay me any overtme. I called the office and asked why I didnt receive any overtime and I was told that the law in Illinois is different for healthcare. You are allowed to work 60 hours a week with no overtime!!!!! I acually worked six days in a row because the family liked me and they didnt have anyone else to fill the shift again, NO OVERTIME!!!! The office staff sucks!!!! I called off one day because I was sick, and I was HUNG UP on by their Client Manager Cristina. She called me up and screamed at me on the phone!!!! That office will treat you like your a dog!!!!! I agree with the other comment made that they dont do reference checks or background checks. They hired me within 5 minutes!!!!! Whenever I called the office to update them on my client they didnt want to hear it or they would tell me they would call me back and that never happened!!!!! I went in the office one afternoon because nobody ever returned my calls and I was shocked the owner of the company was screaming at the top of his lungs at on of the workers. This company should be investigated by the state of Illinois because they dont follow any of the laws!!!!! CAREGIVERS STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!

Not all Home Instead Senior Care Companies are the same

First of all, I would like to say how sorry I am that these former Home Instead Senior Care Caregivers were treated with such indignity. No one should be treated as they were. I truly hope the Headquarters in Omaha, Ne. has gotten wind of this owner's treatment of her Caregivers and has done something about it. If these former employees haven't yet, I would advise them to contact someone from the home office to file formal complaints.

Secondly, if you are reading these reports because you are interested in working for a Home Instead Senior Care franchise or considering hiring a Home Instead Senior Care franchise please realize that not all Home Instead Senior Care franchises are like this one. I work for a Home Instead Senior Care franchise owner in Goodlettsville and Clarksville, Tn.

I have worked for this family almost a year now and they are the most caring, gentle people I have ever met. They treat all people, including their Caregivers and clients, with utmost respect and dignity. They have a very high level of integrity also. They do background checks on all their employees and pay their Caregivers for all training that they do. So, not every Home Instead Senior Care franchise owner is like this one and it's owners like this one that give the owners that are respectable a bad name.

To the owner and staff in Northbrook, Ill., you should be ashamed of yourselves for treating people like this. I hope you get your franchise stripped from you because you don't deserve to be a Home Instead Senior Care franchise owner.

Home instead senior care is the worst company to work for. The company does not care about its employees. I worked the one in fox valley. I had a bad experience. Nobody care about the care givers. care givers were taken for granted. It was poorly managed. If somebody had warned me about this i would never worked for home health agencies. It is the worst place to work. care givers should be aware of this before they accept a job.

It is not worth of all the stress that comes with it. care givers before you accept a job
please understand that there is a lot of turn overs when we work for agencies. It is not
a long term job. that is why they do not care. I have never worked in a place where i saw employees being so disrespected. that is very sad. there is a lot care givers out there who do a good job but nobody cares.

I read what the Northbrook care giver wrote.I was the Recruiter for the Will County IL office and would like to agree.There is an initial brief, under 5 minute interview of the care giver.If I likes what I saw I invited them back for yes a 4 hr UNPAID training.During that training my potentials were berated, humiliated and treated like second class citizens by the owner.As a single mother who needed a job all I could do was put my head down until it was over and try to make the rest of the training pleasant and inviting.They pay minimum wage with no chance of a pay increase while charging top dollar so I thought the least I could do was give them respect and dignity.At the Frankfort office you have to be Irish Catholic, Sox fan who hates Obama and be a Republican.I am Irish so I had that going for me, I pretended to love the Sox and Obama rocks and I'm a Democrat.How liberating it is to be able to finally say that!For 1 hr or more of that UNPAID training they were forced to endure the owner talk about her horse, dogs, Cadillac, Camaro, her educational pedigree, that she is the boss and she makes the rules and the only one who writes their checks, about her boyfriends, being a Republican (but they are not allowed to talk about religion or politics themselves), the Sox and her ex husband who owns the neighboring franchise.She told one 65 yr old woman in orientation who said she was Irish Protestant to stop talking immediately, the woman said I just had a funny story to add to yours, and the owner said if you know what's good for you you'll stop talking and the woman said "but" and the owner jumped and said now you did it I told you no politics or religion and I'm Irish and the Protestants hurt our people and I take that personally...do you know what an Irish person's middle name is? That's right revenge now you don't have a job.The woman sat jaw open and so did the other persons in that class.Eyes were darting back and forth to me. And this AFTER the owner just ran through being Catholic and she don't care what anyone else is, that we're Irish here and that's all we care about and hating Obama and oh my it was just awful.This a weekly if not daily occurance.I was told to throw that womans file away and never work her so I did as I needed my job.another woman who worked at the Will County courthouse wanted a weekend job.Very presentable nice woman and when the owner walked into my interview she asked her where she lived in amumbled voice and disgusted look on her face (her usual face for care givers) and my interview smiled clearly not hearing her and the owner went goofy and asked if loudly if she spoke English..my interview looked stunned and said of course I do and then asked me if she didn't look like she spoke English and I just apologized...and the owner told me not to hire her as well then when the lady called to complain the other owner (her niece) made her apologize to the person and invite her back for orientation.She surprisingly came back but I think just to see what else would happen.The owner has her own UNMARKEDparking spot that we are constantly running out the door in a panic to make interviewers move so she can have her spot.If we don't catch them in time and the owner pulls up OH MY GOSH she will get out of the car and ask the person driving a $2000 car to look at her fancy car and then say that's my spot I can't have a car like yours parked next to mine..move it now...I'm the owner and I pay your checks you don't want to get my Irish up.IT'S DOWNRIGHT MORTIFYING.Allt he businesses surrounding ours refuse us even in their door.We can't market our services at the any of them.They hate her.She writes the rent check and makes me hand it in month after month to the other neighboring office and it's written all over the check's back FIX MY DOOR.Her niece the other owner brings her 3 yr old to work every single day and she's the sweetest little thing you ever met but she sits in on meetings, interviews, my termination and other terminations and so on.In addition to my job she constantly leaves the office leaving her little one there for me to watch which consists of her sitting on my lap while I'm on the phone or trying to work, yelling from the bathroom to wipe her behind, to putting on cartoons and getting her food and making sure she doesn't get hurt.Once a whole shelf unit crashed on top of her while we were all on the phone and all you heard was the crash and screams..thankfully she was ok.She falls asleep on the floor with no pillow or blanket and we walk over it and I had the good sense to at least put a blanky under her head.This while I pay for my little girl to be babysat while I work I have to see and deal with this?I'm barely makingends meet and this girls mom is driving a BMW, Passat, great house and she can't put her kid in daycare?Not too mention twice in the past 2 months the poor little thing had amajor melt down from being ignored while we were on the phone, it was during an orientation.Her mom threw her out of her office and locked her office door leaving the child to go wild screaming hysterical tears and kicking her moms door to let her in.The orientation was wide eyed and cmmenting.2 other girls int he office had to go pick her up and restrain her.The other owner walked outside because she couldn't handle the tantrum and her mother was still in her office on the phone!Then I get a promotion 3 weeks ago.They tell my sister who stopped in who has her masters degree, 40 yrs old and highly professional how great I am and so on.They demote the other office girl and verbally berate her to my sister...she's fat she's disgusting, her pants go up her a*s, her husband is a loser and more much more.My sister didn't repsond.She said she was hoping they would react to her non response, back straight pose and look of "really" on her face but they didnt.Both owners and the office manager kept at it for 30 minutes.She was appalled.Then office gossip started while I was out of the office.They promoted me but now instead of the other girl I'm the focus.They compromised my FaceBook by going on it when I was out of the office and I noticed and wrote it all down...dates and times of the log ins.Then they said the demother girl, whom I'm not on Face Book with nor am I with anyone in the office, said I said something defamatory about them on my post.In fact I did not and never have so I asked for proof of which they did not have.In truth I brought in new cases totally $12000 in monthly revenue in 3 weeks, worked documented into over 20 hours of UNPAID overtime and the bouns that I was supposed to get they said was no longer applied as they increased the goal another unreachable $20000 permonth.They said the Face Book comment that was all hearsay from a disgruntled employee was immediate grounds for termination.That very morning they just added my very picture to the new CAREGiver Client book I suggested putting together!So long and short is I don't know why they turned on me and nor do I care.I consider it a blessing.I was so unhappy at how they treat the care givers.I felt shame that I couldn't defend  7hem.So I drove and spent more than $75 of my own gas money as a single mother to do their marketing.They gave me $100 for gas and I drove hundreds of miles and it didn't cover it.I worked nights and weekends paying a babysitter $5 an hour, while I made $12 an hour with no overtime or bonus.The caregivers have it worse at minimum wage.I want to be paid for the time I was away from my family but it won't happen.I can not use them as a reference because they DESTROY anyone who tries to call for a reference, the owner will pick up the phone and say that person was a crazy and don't hire them and so on-she's pulled the phone out of my hand when references call to do it.One federal lady came in to inquire about a former employee trying to get a government job and the owner was telling her embarrassing off the wall things.That has to be documented somewhere.All in all, if your looking to put your money into a company beware of this one.People only buy US products because of the poor labor and cheap labor in foreign companies...why allow it right here in Midwest USA?Everything I say is fact.
