I recently called Home Makeover Systems about an ad they had listed looking for sales people. Home Makeover Systems is a water purification company mainly and also sales E Shield in homes to help reduce electric utility cost. The ad indicated that it was an outside sales position for water purification with preset leads offering a base salary plus commissions as well. I spoke with Jessica who is the HR Recruiter there who also verified this; but when I went in for the interview and spoke with Alex, one of their managers, it was a completely different story.
He told me that they do not pay a base salary but instead a draw which means whatever you sell your draw is deducted from. That's a far cry from a base salary, but I accepted this because I was also told that you have the option to switch over to a commission base only as well which is what I wanted to eventually acheive because the income potential is far greater.
I did tell Alex though that I would need that draw for the first few weeks just to have some money to fall back on so that I could get familar with the product and service it offered which is a major key to doing any sale. I did however frown on the fact the company ran a misleading ad and 2 days later during training finally walked away after being told by another sales manager, John, that if you need a draw to sell this, then you do not need to be working for this company.
Here's the problem: The company ran a deceptive ad stating that they pay a base salary for this sales postion being advertised when in fact it's nothing more than a draw and then try desuade you from taking the draw right off the bat. The bottom line is they lied about this. After I quit, I did some more research on the company and found out that they are not a BBB acredited business. If you have to lie to get salespeople to work for your company in order to promote your products and services, then that is sad as well as pathetic. Good salespeople are the key ingredient to almost every company's success and these people want to lie to you about a base salary when there is none.
