We bought a furniture from roomstore, with no interest-no monthly for one year. The cost was $1,500. Since we signed an agreement, we expected that at the end of the term HRS will demand full payment of the unpaid balance-because that's our contract. Well, that's not the case.

In paying bills, I just looked at the minimum payment due and expected that at the end of the term, we will be billed the full amount of the unpaid balance.

BIG MISTAKE ON MY PART BECAUSE I'M DEALING WITH HRS USA. We have the money to pay the balance at the end of the term, but since we were not aware because the minimum payment due was still $0.00 at the end of the promo period, I paid half of the amount owe at that time, $500.00.

Now, we were charged additional $539.60 (including interest from the disputed interest)). I called and made a request for interest abatement, well, I WAS DEALING WITH HRS USA...tsk..tsk..so it my request was rejected.

Now, about Best Buy. When you buy something under a promo no-interest for a period of time, there is a monthly minimum fee (different from Roomstore, no monthly minimum).

But if you did make 2 purchases from Best Buy on different times, one purchase under no-interest fee, and the other was a regular purchase, HRS will apply your monthly payments to the purchase with "no-interest promo", instead of the one that accumulates interest.

So if you don't want to be charged interest, be sure to pay off your "no-interest" balance so HRS USA will then apply your next payments to one that charges interest.

This one I noticed when we purchased a computer (no interest, but with monthly minimum) and then we made another purchase that charges interest.

Well, since the minimum payment was $25 for the computer, my payment was always more than $25, expecting that HRS will apply the rest to the other purchase, because what's the benefit of taking the non-interest promo if you will pay it off ahead of the other that charges interest.

Well, your guess is as good as mine. This is the reason why we just decided to pay-off all the balance before the maturity of the computer's "no interest for 6 months".

Initially, I was thinking of just letting these things go. But after reading others' stories about HRS, I noticed a trend here.

It seems they are conducting their business making sure that consumers will fall behind their schedules, in short, they are acting in BAD FAITH.

I hope someone will stand up and make a case for us, because this gives corporate America a bad name.

I think people should hold the credit company more at fault .

AUTHOR: William - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, June 14, 2003

I have seen alot fo these complaints for retailers on here. I think people should hold the credit company more at fault than the retailers. I almost got taken by household myself. They waited to cash my check, that was sent in 14 days prior, till the day after the 6 months no intrest ended. I did get them to take away this amount and hlep no ill feelings toward best buy. As for the payments on multiple purchases, sadly this is a credit card pratice and should not affet your feelings of the retailer. I called discover the other day because i am making a $4,000 purchase that i'd rether pay off in 6 months. They offered me 2.9% on all new purchases for 6 months (i thought this was great). The problem came about when i asked about the $600 college bill i put on there a few days previous at 13%. My work wil not reimburse me for this money till the class is over. Well in using the 2.9% intrest rate all payments made will go to that purchase and not the 13%. So granted the retialer may have been able to explain it better, but most complaints i see are better suited for way credit card compaines sucker you, not the retailers. Also when bashing a store keep in mind you would have ran into the same problem if you used any credit card in your wallet.

I am fortunate that my experiences have been good.

AUTHOR: Shea - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, May 16, 2003

I have purchase numerous grouped pieces of furniture from the Roomstore and within a 6-mos period and paid out at the end of the promotional period. .

I am fortunate that my experiences have been good.

This is a fact the interests does accrue near the 12 or 24 month date. Pay close attention to the purchases that are made within a short amount of time.

They add the balance together on the invoice But, on the monthly statement it is itemized to the pruchase and promotional date.

This is where the problem comes in. Payments are not deducted from the different balances.

So, you must post on the check where the monies should be deducted. (you can say within one account number there are sub accounts-these are the numerous purchases that are done with balances and different contracts that were signed)So, I can see where this could become a problem.

Thank you for you time.

As a RoomStore manager, all of our interest free promotions are explained to the customer

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Thursday, January 10, 2002

They filed the following rebuttal to the above Rip-Off Report:

Their email: Roomstore@aol.com
Their name: Steve Sinclair

Their relationship to the company: Advocate

Rebuttal:
As a RoomStore manager, all of our interest free promotions are explained to the customer, and we place a sticker (which must be initialed by the customer) on each invoice which states the ending date of the promotion, and that interest accrues during the period and must be paid off by that date. I have had very few complaints, especially after showing the customer their initials. Moral of the story... Make sure you read what you are signing, and ask questions if you don't understand.
