Yesterday I googled for Norton's customer support. The web page popped up with 1-800 number. When I called that number, lady responded quickly. She said that their company is providing customer service to Nortons. When I explained my problem about auto renewal of Norton's anti-virus software, she said "no problem I will take out the auto renewal and if there is a charge I willremove it." I was very happy for such a quick fix without any arguements. Then she said "before I do that I need to remotely login to your laptop." She asked me to go to webpage www.1mb.com/all and download Support Dock. I did that then she sent a request for remote login which I accepted and she got the control over my laptop. She mentioned "In the mean time let me run some diagnosis and check how your laptop is doing, if it has any backdoors for viruses." Everything sounded so well. She started running diagnosis and I was waiting for her to take care of my refund. She asked me to login into my Norton's account. Then she said "you will get better deal. Norton should charge you only $39.99 for 3 PCs, not $69.99 . I can get that deal for you." I said go ahead. Then she started talking about the diagnostic report of my laptop. She said there are lot of threats and that has to be removed first before adding Norton anti-virus. Then she came out with $499 for 2 years / $599 for 3 years plans. Then I started realizing that she is not from Norton customer support and she trying to sell the service. I refused her offer and asked to work on refund from Norton. She said can not do it as she is from other company and sincerely asked me to contact Norton customer support and she even gave me the Norton's 1800 number. By this time I spent almost an hour over phone with this lady. It was mere waste of time that it was just before going to bed.
Good thing I didn't give my credit card number and other details. However, I gave my most of other personal information. I am still worried since she had logged in into my laptop remotely. I don't know what data has been stolen or any malware has been installed on my laptop by her. The lady said she is Talking to me from Bangalore and her name was Sunitha Vasudevan.
