Recently my parents and I got scammed by 3 IDT Energy Inc. Representatives. Each rep came on different days. Convinced by their lies of promises of big discounts and savings we signed their Switch & Save contract. Two months later when we got the first bill with their charges we realized we've been scammed. My bill was 50 percent higher than it would have been if I hadn't signed with IDT Energy. My parents bill was more than 35 percent higher. We were so angry and upset, but we weren't the only ones that were scammed by IDT Energy reps, some friends and family were scammed too. I immediately called Con Ed and IDT Energy to cancel the contract for me and my parents.

Canceling wasn't a problem, I'm sure IDT Energy make their money from the first bill or two they get to charge people before they cancel, so even if everyone that signs with them cancel their contract, IDT Energy have already made a profit from all the bills they were able to charge from all those people before they canceled their contract.

I live in Corona, NY and the IDT Energy Reps that came to my home to scam my me and my parents were: Ricardo Mojica, David Vargas (rep # 8408133) and a DiCaron (rep # 8701626). They made lots of promises of discounts and savings, savings of 7 to 14 percent on electric charges, 14 percent on first month, then 7 percent; no sales tax on delivery; no state gross receipts tax; no delivery charges; no basic service charges; lower price for electricity. All turn out to be a bunch of lies.

One of the reps have told us that he's a supervisor, but when I called IDT and inquired about him they couldn't give me any information about him or the other reps. When I called him on his cell phone that he had given us, he lied and said he no longer worked for IDT. I said, "yeah right, so you just signed us up and then left?" He said he used to work for them and they were short and needed help, so they called him and he was just helping out when he signed us, but that he didn't work for IDT anymore. What BS!

If you are ever contacted by any IDT Energy representative my advice is that you don't believe a word they tell you tell them to leave immediately and never come back, then slam your door on their face. If you have been scammed already, called them immediately to cancel and tell them that if they don't cancel your contract immediately that you'll sue them. Also, call Con Edison or whichever was your electric company and ask them to cancel the ESCO immediately, you can do this online too, which I also did just to make sure it got canceled ASAP.

Today I filed a complaint with the New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. http://www.oag.state.ny.us/contact.html
Also filed complaint with New York State Public Service Commission.

Then I found this website and wrote this Ripoff Report.

AUTHOR: Stop Crying - ()

First of all any sales pitch needs to be taken as a sales pitch. In every company there are going to be individuals pushing sales for commission that will tell you things that arent true. Knowing this it is up to you to be skeptical of strangers that show up on your doorstep and to do your homework. Fine print on the contract talks about the variable rates with no guarantee of savings. That right there lets you know that the rates and pricing from IDT might not save you money like the sales rep says. So by blindly signing a contract based on what the guy that makes money on the sale hes pitching is in my opinion, your fault. Do your homework, be smart and responsible and above all be skeptical enough to reasearch the company and compare rates. By not doing so and NOT reading the contract it is thereby your fault for getting suckered and by saying that you were scammed means you are playing the victim and blaming a company who provided all the info on their contract that you need to know. If I was walking through the mall and a salesman at a booth told me that I would get a thousand dollars back for signing up for a cell phone plan, you better believe im going to make sure that true before i enroll. Stop crying about your own decisions.
