I received a few offers in the mail with their promise..."Enroll with IGS Energy and get a fixed rate of 84.9 cents per ccf through December 2008". I ignored them at first - if I want something I will go find it.

I took them up on their offer after much research---first bill $13.47 for Dec. I got my Janurary bill and it's $127.00!!!!!!!!!! I have a $30 gas usage but a $90 distributor feel. I contacted them to remove me from the program which their website says can be done but I have yet to hear from them.

No where does their literature tell you about the outrageous distribution charge. You stay with your current gas company (mine is Consumers Energy) and they continue to bill me - only difference is my supplier is now IGS.

Beware...I couldn't read the small print because there isn't any.

Mislead Fee

AUTHOR: Joe Myers - ()

The fee you are talking about has nothing to do with what IGS charges you and everything to do with the utility. On any utility bill we only replace the transmission and generation charges on your bill. The utility is responsible for the distribution.

Everything we do is with the customer in mind. We would rather have your business in the long run instead of having you for a year and getting hit with a hidden cost. Transparency and education with the customer are in our core values. We care about the relationship.

If you would like help in the future reading your bills and understanding the language associated with them, please contact me in the office at 1-614-659-5104 or jsmyers@igsenergy.com

just stay away from igs energy

AUTHOR: valvecovers - ()

these are facts

igs energy and other suppliers cannot & will not guarantee you any savings because they dont want you to save money, they want you to choose them

that is why they have contracts

if you have a contract with a supplier, and the supplier  wont release it

simply change the name on the billing, and it cancels their contract

Educate Yourself BEFORE you Claim it's A Scam

AUTHOR: Business Woman Chicago - (United States of America)

I work very closely with third party energy companies in Illinois. It's been only a couple of years since some states became deregulated.

Bottom line, ComEd and Nicor can't get away with charging what they want and increase the charges based on the season or whomever is the CEO at the time. I have seen IGS at trade shows just as much as all the other companies. They all just want a piece of the energy.

And US as consumers should educate ourselves PRIOR to assuming it's a scam. I have seen for a fact that most of the energy companies that come in and want you to switch over ARE indeed lower in cost. The rate you agree to is set in stone for a certain period of time. That is to offer you security. Especially if you are on a fixed income.  You can't see one rate on the 1st bill and then another rate on the second. You are not educated enough if you think that.

What the employee mentioned is a fact. ComEd, Consumers Energy, Nicor, etc. They ALL charge a Distro fee. It's based on usage and you don't get a choice to not pay it.  The rate that most of these companies like IGS is offering is the lower rate by usage.. not the other fees. Those fees will always be there.  If you choose to NOT educate and NOT look outside ComEd and Nicor .. you are the one scamming yourself.  You are choosing to pay higher rates because you are ignorant.

IGS is a good company

AUTHOR: Gas hawk - (United States of America)

Hello:

I have been an IGS customer for over four years. I am very please with their service. Apple to apple comparison, I have been consistently saving money over Consumer Energy.  But recently I changed to a little known gas supplier My Choice Energy www.fostermychoice.com/plans-price/. Their price is way better than IGS as posted in their website. To top that off, I send an email to My Choice Energy agent kenc.deng@gmail.com  to ask for additional discount, he surprised me by given me an unbeatable price.

i know personally

AUTHOR: interested party - (United States of America)

i have done a lot of ground work with these programs that different suppliers offer.  i have seen multiple utility bills with lower rates on them and no additional charges. not to mention some of these suppliers offer green credits to offset your carbon emissions.

on march 1st, 2012 several cities just north of chicago will be choosing their supplier. why do you think this is?  google electricity deregulation and see the article forbes put out. this can truly be a great thing for every single home and business to do. if one billion americans were to save just one dollar a month that would be 12 billion saved yearly. plus all the while lots of them would still be participating in green energy projects for our country.

i can agree that there are some companies that dont run the best programs. however we cant let one bad apple spoil the whole bunch.

This person is confused

AUTHOR: Tom - (United States of America)

I'm not sure if this person understands how 3rd party suppliers work, in this case the person was complaining about high distrbution charges, when you enroll with a supplier for your gas or electric the only thing that supplier is affecting is the cost of the actual gas or electric you use, they have nothing to with delivery, meter reading, customer charge or taxes, they just control the price of the actual gas or electric you use, any charges for delivery are from your utility because that is what the utility does, they deliver your gas or electric, read your meter, respond to emergencies, billing, turn your service on or off. This person must not of read there bill correctly or didn't understand how a 3rd party supplier works.

RESPONSE

AUTHOR: Igsemployee1 - (U.S.A.)

RESPONSE TO YOUR QUESTIONS

"ok,igs energy employee,answer these questions:

QUESTON: why can't your company GUARANTEE your gas rate will be LOWER than the rate the utility could obtain for their customers in the same period?

RESPONSE: The gas market if a volatile market, we cannot lock in customers for a certain price and guarentee its going to be lower than the given utility for each month of the contract, thats not possible, the utility themselves don't know what they are going to charge until that month comes around. Now we do offer some GUARENTEED savings contracts, but they are setup to take a set amount off of the utility's rate, for example in the DEO area (Dominion East Ohio) we offer a 30 cents off rate, their rate for September is around $10.67 per mcf, and our rate is $10.37 per mcf.

why can't you GUARANTEE any savings for more than a few months at a time, and if you do have a guaranteed fixed rate for a year, why charge a consumer a cancellation fee?

Look at the above response, that program goes through March of 2009, I would say thats more than a few months at a time. We charge cancellation fees so that their is a reason the customer stays with out company. Sign up for DirecTV, and call to cancel in 3 months, you'll find out they have cancellation fees as well. Some of our contracts do not have cancellation fees, it all depends on the strategy of the company. Keep in mind no one is forcing you to sign up for the offer, if you don't like the offer you can respectfully decline and stay with the utility instead of smearing a company based on your inability to understand how our company works.

what does the utility charge the average customer to switch away from igs energy when cancelling their service?

The utility is not allowed to charge the customer any additional fees. The utility doesn't care if you sign up for a gas supplier. They do not profit off the sale of natural gas, they profit off of the transportation costs. The utility's rate is determined by the price they are able to buy the gas for, and associated costs to get it to the city gate, they do not profit from it. In that case, they do not care if you sign up for a gas supplier, because you are still paying the transportation costs to them, and thats all they care about.

why don't you discose the additional fees each utility you service puts on a person's gas bill when enrolling you as their supplier, and when cancelling their service on your website?

We tell the customers this is the cost for the gas, we tell them there will also be a delivery charge from the utility, sales tax, and usually a customer service fee from the utility.

If you should have any other questions, contact me at igsemployee@yahoo.com, as I do not check ripoffreport that often. I am the same person that responded to the previous posting, but I forgot my login/password hence the new username. I look forward to helping you understand how our company works.

#10 UPDATE EX-employee responds

another example of an IGS Energy scam

AUTHOR: Grimreaper - (U.S.A.)

here's another fine example of IGS marketing scams:

in the last 2 weeks,IGS Energy launched an all out mail marketing blitz in the following area,Indian(NIPSCO),Ohio (Columbia Gas),and New York(Central Hudson).

as for Indiana residents, they offerred NIPSCO gas customers a fixed rate of $1.45 a therm for a year, with a $150 cancellation fee.

the September gas rate for NIPSCO customers right now is only $.93.

why offer $1.45 for a year at this time??

because NIPSCO customers will see their August and July rates on their early Sept. gas bill, which were $1.72 in July, and $1.45 in August.

but they wont see their present rate, and IGS knows this, that is why they stop the program on September 12th,which is when NIPSCO customers start getting their late Sept.bills, showing their rate in September to be $.93.

IGS Energy knows this, and they know this is a complete ripoff.

Read your bill

AUTHOR: Igsemployee - (U.S.A.)

Distribution charges are on your bill if your with IGS Energy, or with your regular utility company. The only difference is that it is itemized to show the different charges. Your distribution charge is the exact same amount no matter what gas supplier you are with, or if you are with the utility. It is a fixed amount based on your usage, for example 23.5 cents per CCF, if you use 100 CCFs you multiply that by 23.5 cents, and thats your distribution charge. Instead of blindly accusing a company for ripping you off, take time to understand what your bill says. For example, your price of 84.9 cents per CCF right now is about 20 percent lower than DTE's charge in Michigan. The Ex-employee responding to this claim is false, we have had almost no turnover in the last 4-5 years, this person is obviously an impostor. Feel free to contact IGS if you would like them to explain our charges to you instead of assuming they are new fees.

this isnt anything new

AUTHOR: Grimreaper - (U.S.A.)

this is nothing new.
i am sure you werent told about those extra fees for a reason.

IGS Energy rates are historically higher than the rates provided by the utility.just look at the rates offerred by IGS Energy for Nicor in Illinois for the last year.
they were higher almost every month.
these suppliers will last another couple years at the most, before they are all exposed as mere brokers, and not suppliers at all.
