Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services Wage Replacement Ripoff Vancouver BC Canada
I started having neck trouble after graveling a rough road , went through physio , massage therapy , accupuncture and last but not least the chiropractor all on advice from the docs.
The chiropractor was someone I had seen earlier for shoulder problems , he helped with my shoulder and was and had been very gentle when handling my neck as I have never liked it cracked . The day I went to see he was so busy ...not expecting it , he cracked my neck and thus began my trip into hell.
I went back to my physio theraphist three days later in severe pain , my skull was even sitting crooked on my neck . As I had a MRI and CT scan just before the visit to the chiropractor the doc. refused to do another one.A few weeks later is when I lost my vision while driving for the first time . It happened again this time only losing vision in my right eye for an hr. or so . The doc. pulled my class one fearing I had had a stroke (am 47 yr old )
My physiotheraphist advised me to phone my insurance company to tell them what had happened so if it was damage proven to be form the chiropractor they could go after him to recoup some of the cost .
When I called and spoke to the girl that handles our group claims she just got very sarcastic with me and told me to go back to the chiropractor and get him to fix it.
I filed for my short term disability in Jan.2011 and was happy when I recieved it . I recieved it for 3 months continuing my physio ect. With no further medical testing done as it seems to be taboo when you mention to another doc. that the pain and problems was caused by a visit to another medical proffesional , I went back to work.
During the summer my income fell as I continued to miss work due to doc. visits and sick time due to severe headaches. I continued slugging through work the best I could .As a truck driver I have to be careful as to what medications I am taking .
To make along story short I continued my search for medical help and ended up at Healthpointe In Edmonton where I went through cortesone injections in my neck and freezing of my occipital nerve . Healthepointe medical is a hell all in itself as I will post on here as well.
I went off work again in Jan /12 and once again filed for wage replacement and was denied with an explanation that I could do 80%of my job. The head office and my direct boss I worked for sent Industrial a letter stating I could not and was not capable of driving long hours, throwing chains ect. My doc. restricted me to no lifting or driving for any amount of time but to no avail. In the time between my first denial and before I filed my appeal ,industrial called wanting to know my level of education . I grew up working on our family farm and education was not a priority but do have my G.E.D , the girl from industrial groaned and when I filed my appeal... denied
The girl from Industrial called me and basically told me to not call her again , she gave me a number to some other guy who on his answering machine promises to call you back within 24 hrs ..not!!
I finally went to a lawyer and thats where you just become a pawn .. had our meeting of discovery in Jan./13 at which time industrials lawyer admitted they were going to have to pay me but was very concerned about the clauses that contain malicious and breach of contract .Of course he should be concerned ,in my opinion they did both .
As time progressed I got worse and worse , medication stronger and stronger , I was sleeping up to 20 hrs a day in pain and drugged out. Fianally found a doc. that listened to me and ordered more xrays ect.
Was called in and sent urgently to a surgeon who looked a my M.R.I and booked me immediately into surgery. I had my operation may 27/13 my disk between C 6-7 had collapsed and was pushing through into my spinal cord . An operation that was to take 2-3 hrs. took 5 1/2 hrs due to my spinal cord being torn . The surgeon figures I have been leaking spinal fluid for over 2 yrs , my brain hd no fluid around it.
I am in a solid collar for 6 wks and a few months of physio after . I hope my problem is fixed but won't really know til I get back into things.
Once I knew I was going for surgery I thought for sure Industrial would start giving me something as they had been holding out saying they needed me to get a long term prognoses and did not want to comprimise their bargining position ..huh sure wish I could tell the bill collectors that .
My husband and I had everything set up for two incomes , most of our debt would have been paid off in another year if I had been working . Now our morgage has gone from 16 yrs to 30 , our house is for sale,we have sold what toys we had that were paid for to make ends meet .We have borrowed and had groceries supplied by family ,watched our credit go down the tubes. I had wage replacement insurance with industrial alliance through the trucking company I worked for .
I have lost my class 1 , it took me long enough just to get my class 5 because of all the medication I was on and did you know having neck issues is what motor vehicles calls structurely unsound .
Now the lawyer is telling me that industrial wont pay me anything til I go back to work and can work a 40 hr work week ... huh Im confused that does not even make sense I need money while I am disabled not when I am back to work .
I am very angry .
I had also bought a pickup through Derrick Dodge in Edmonton at the time of purchase I paid $7000 for coverage in case I got sick ect. my payments would then be made . Well as it turns out that coverage is Industrial alliance Pacific. They went back to the day I was born to try and prove pre-existing .
They denied me because I had gone to a Chiropractor . I tried to cancel but you dont get much, a 6 yr. loan a year and a half left on my payments and my refund would have been $350.00... huh how does that work
I phoned the dealership ,told them what was happening and they could have their pickup back. It was amazing how fast the insurance company decided to pay after that , took about 5 months after I filed for them to pay . In the end I lost my pickup anyway , lack of funds.
We are looking at filing for bankrupcy but dont want to . I am so frustrated with the whole system. I have always worked hard now here I sit , I paid for security, insurance that was supposed to prevent all this .
Instead I have been treated like I am out for a free ride , they try and make you walk away , try and force you to go to work like a big corporate bully . Have been degraded and treated like I am an uneducated idiot.
I am angry....
The company I worked for pays industrial $1,000,000 a year and the premiums the employees pay is on top of that amount ....
