Infomatika Publications harassing me over an invoice for something I specifically told them I was not interested in!!! Champlain New York

I too am victim of Infomatika's deceptive practices. I received a phone call from one of their sales reps discussing their publication and presenting themselves as , during which I repeatedly told the rep that I was not interested in advertising with them. Several times during this phone call, the rep would make it sound like they were sending me a complimentary publication, but would then proceed to tell me that an invoice would be sent, to which I repeatedly told him that there was no need to send me an invoice because I was not ordering anything. His reply to this was that I was under no obligation to subscribe to anything. He then said that I would receive a phone call from their QC department to verify the company mailing address.

I did, in fact receive this call and was told it would be taped for quality assurance purposes-and I actually remember being glad that they were taping the converstation, just in case there was any confusion. During this conversation, the rep verified the address and mentioned an invoice, to which I again replied that I was not ordering anything and that if I received an invoice for anything I would not pay it.
Low and behold, a couple of weeks later I receive a box from Infomatika with my "complimentary" book and an invoice for $349.95 for it. I called their billing department and only got a voicemail, so I left a message stating the problem. The next correspondence I received was a "friendly reminder" for the overdue bill. I then faxed the collections department with a copy of the invoice along with an expalnation of the complaint and requested that they credit/cancel the invoice.
About two weeks later I received a phone call requesting payment for the invoice. I again discussed my initial conversation with the rep, to which she replied that they have me on tape and that they would listen to the tape and make a determination.

Well after about a month or so of not hearing from them, I figured that they had listened to the tape and had clearly heard that I was not interested in anything that required a purchase/invoice/etc., until I received yet another phone call requesting payment. Again, I argued with the rep, who told me that they would play back the tape for me. To say the least, I was astonished at what they had played back to me. The part of the conversation they played was me basically giving one word answers to the rep who was "verifyiing my information". The whole part of the conversation where I told her not to send an invoice and that I was not interested in advertising or purchasing anything was completely omitted, and I let the rep know this. She then said that since there seemed to be some "miscommunication", perhaps we could some to a "settlement" on the invoice, otherwise, she'd have to turn it over to collections and that I would receive another phone call. I told her there would be no settlement from us and that additional phone calls will not prompt any payment from us. It was then that I searched this company online and came across your website, only to find out that I'm not the only person that they have tried to scam. I phoned the Attorney General's office in NY, and to my amazement, the woman had never heard of any complaints reported on this company, though several victims stated in their postings that they filed complaints. They are to send me a complaint form to complete and retrun, but I'm not sure what good that will do considering so many have complained, yet Infomatika is still operating as a ligitimate business. I truly hope someone finally shuts them down!!
