IPA - IBA, International Profit Association Integrated Business Analysis is a high pressure slick consulting firm that flashes a free or moderately priced consult, then brings in analysts tailored to your particular sector of business. They make a good impression, very professional sounding, with advice on how to turn things around.
DON,T let them in the door! After spending a week printing many reports filled with numbers and colorful charts, and seemingly proposing reorganizations in many departements of my business, they presented me with an outrageous bill covering airfare, hotels, rental cars for the two Senior Analysts.
They convinced me that this first week was producing positive change, and demanded a serie of ten checks dated that day, for payment of this first invoice, but assured that the IPA-IBA never cashes checks without first clearing it with me.
Same scenario for the second week, same demand for checks. So far so good, except for that sick feeling in the gut when signing the series of checks.
On the third week, a phone call received by our analyst seemed to make him alarmed and he announced that he would take a break from the six week time frame the work was supposed to last, and he would return in a few weeks to a month. We had meetings already planned with my accountant, my banker and potential investors, but too bad...
One morning after verifying our bank account, we were apalled to find that IBA-IPA had cashed all the checks at once and thus emptied it. Payroll was around the corner, and crucial payments to suppliers were compromised.
Sure that there was an error, I put calls in to all the contact numbers they had given me, I only got voice mail: or retuned calls were only to say that they would call back in 15 minutes or in an hour and a half, or at the end of that day (because they were all too busy scamming some one else!). The calls never came.
