In 2006, my husband and I were approached by a man asking if we were in any kind of credit card debt.  He knew my husband from the gym in Dallas, TX and also knew that we were newlyweds.  My husband said yes that we were.  He came to our apartment and met with us to discuss what the company he represented did for families.  He told us that J. O'Neill and Associates was organizing a class action lawsuit against credit card companies for violation of the terms of agreements which would in turn, eliminate all of our debt and restore us to near perfect credit. 

He told us that there was a $3000 fee, but that we could use one of our current credit cards to pay for it.  We did and gave the list of our credit cards to the representative.  He told us that everything would be wiped clean and we would be debt free in 60-90 days. We began receiving emailed instructions on what to do next and how the "case" was progressing.  The emails told us not to talk to our creditors and that the case was proceding well with the end in sight.

I have retained all the emails and communication from 2006-2008.  Needless to say, here it is 2012 and we have had to resolve our debt ourselves and are still trying to work with some creditors.  Both mine and my husband's credit is bad and we don't know when we'll be able to get our heads above water.  We had hoped to buy a house years ago, but because of us wanting to believe a so-called lawyer, our credit and savings were ruined.
