Mr. Soukup was my attorney when my wife and I divorced, and he was more passive than any family law attorney I had ever met. I hired him from a recommendation, and after seeing how his demeanor (in his office) would serve me well in fighting for issues regarding my son. He is a veteran and spoke well of his career and the military, which gave him more points in my book. So, I hired him to go to bat for me.

Turns out, this guy let the other side walk all over me. This was a few years ago, and as time goes on and I know more people who went through a divorce trial, I am finding out just how good their attorney was and how lousy mine was. That trial established all the rules I must now fight until my child is no longer a minor. This guy is a lukewarm bottom-dweller.

Word to the wise, do not hire James A. Soukup to do anything more than cash your checks and put on a good show in the confines of his office. He's got that routine down.

No regrets using Mr. Soukup

AUTHOR: Brad - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, June 14, 2012

I used James Soukup of Soukup Law in Everett WA to represent me when my wife filed for divorce.  It was a huge relief when I met him as my now ex-wife wanted to severely limit my time as a father with our 2 year old daughter.  My daughter is the most important thing in the world to me and I needed to do everything possible to allow me to be a significant part of her life and to be her father.
During and now that the process is over I am so glad that I found Mr. Soukup to represent me.  Throughout the year for our case, he was always available for questions and reassurances.  I also appreciate during this whole time he told me how it is without giving me false hopes or promises of what I might get in time with my daughter.  He is not flashy, abrasive, or wanting to cause a fight, but dedicated, direct, and gets the job done.    His advice never led me astray from my goal of equal time shared with our daughter, and in the end that is what I got.
Mr. Soukup also made good choices when a GAL was needed as well as made a good choice in choosing a mediator.  His billing was clear and easy to follow with no fees that were surprising.  Although any lawyer is expensive, I feel that Mr. Soukups charges were fair when I compared and well worth it.  I will always refer people to him that have the unfortunate experience of divorce or child custody battles.  His office is also across the street from the courthouse making court appearances very simple and convenient.  You will not regret using him, and I am typically pretty skeptical!   Thank you so much Mr. Soukup for a lifetime with my daughter and helping me to still be the father I have always wanted to be to her!

Unrealistic expectations of client

AUTHOR: James - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 13, 2007

Just noticed this report for first time yesterday. By going through my old files, am quite confident I know recognize the author. Reviewed the transcript of court's decision from trial. In my view - author came out decently at trial - received half of the community property - got a fair shake on child support - No, was not awarded primary custody of young child. But from our first meeting I explained to him that under the custody laws of Washington, his odds of being given primary custody of his child were between slim and none. But he wanted to go for custody, so was given full opportunity to state his case for custody to the judge. He did not get primary custody, but did receive what I considered substantial visitation. I considered my representation of him successful, in that he received a fair share of property, did not have to pay any attorney's fees to his wife (whose fees were more than 4 times those of author's), and most importantly, had no restrictions placed on his visitation with child by the trial judge, which was vigorously sought by wife and her lawyer. My reward for representing author came several months later, when he discharged the substantial amount of legal fees he owed me in bankruptcy.

That's the best comeback ever for that hatemonger Wally. Every time he posts, it's a slam against someone using facts and logic against a frivolous complaint.

Defending the Profession???

AUTHOR: Wally - (Australia)

POSTED: Saturday, January 14, 2006

Well done Carl. A legal eagle defending his mates and this time only one misspelt word per sentence - inspires great confidence. You obviously need the details because the author would most certainly be incorrect in his asumptions. A lawyer not doing his job - perish the thought!!!!
Good luck J there are some good ones around but it is most certainly hard to find them, isn't it?

You post doesn't contain much detail. Please post specifics some that consumers reading your report can make an informed decision about this attorney. Insults without facts do not creat arguments.
