Anyone can say whatever want and, nowadays, anyone can find a venue for their rantings -- such as Ripoff Report.  I suppose I prefer it that way since the alternative is an authoritarian regime.  So, fine.  The public just has to be discerning -- recognize unreasonable vitrial from valid critiques. 

My firm has been in business for 10 years.  In that time, we have serviced nearly 4,000 clients.  During the economic crisis, many of those clients had bankruptcy and/or foreclosure issues, which is the situation with our complanaint here.  When I started out to help these people in distress, I was naive enough to think they would all be appreciative.  Many have been, and they will likely be clients of the firm for life.  There is a small percentage, however, that can be demoralizing to a lawyer -- or any professional, for that matter -- doing his best to help.

Some people will always look for others to blame for their problems.  When a lawyer steps up to take on a client's financial problems, he makes himself a perfect scapegoat.  We do our very best to find loopholes for our clients - solutions that will allow them to avoid entirely the negative consequences of their situation.  When that is not possible, we hold back the inevitable as long as we can.  When the walls do, at long last, close in, that is when a client's true character comes out. 

Many clients will realize they were much better off with with the lawyer's help than they would be without it.  Those client thank us for our hard work and will tell their friends we did everything humanly possible to help -- even if the final outcome wasn't what they hoped. 

Then, there are others, like our complainant here, who simply don't have the emotional maturity to refrain from taking out their frustrations on those closest to them -- typically, the very people who have fought for them during the tough times.

As a lawyer, it can hard not to take these attacks personally.  They do hurt.  But, unfortunately, it seems to be part of the business.
