Beware Of J.G. Wentworths Offer to Beat Competitors by $1,000.00.
Dont End Up Screwed Like Us!
Just over a month ago my husband and I began researching how much money we would get if we sold our structured settlement payments. We didnt want to do it and we understood that there would be a cost but we had mounting bills and we had hit our breaking point.

Our plan was to spend a lot of time calling around to get the best possible offer from a respectable company who we could trust.

One of our first calls was to J.G. Wentworth. When it became clear to the J.G. Wentworth salesperson that we werent going to sign immediately without doing more shopping the representative told us to shop around as much as we like BUT to call him in the end because J.G. Wentworths policy was to beat any other competitor by an extra $1,000.00.

All we had to do is call as many companies as we could to get the best offer then call J.G. Wentworth back and get an extra $1,000.00. What a great deal! How could we lose?

My husband and I called any competitor who would provide us with a quote and we even got all these companies to compete against one another. Finally after two exhausting weeks of shopping we simply called J.G. Wentworth back and they did as they promised and beat the best offer that we had gotten on our own by an extra $1,000.00. They overnighted a sales contract to us netting $58,250.00. We signed and returned the documents to them as quickly as we could. It was A LOT of work but we felt that it was all worth it. We thought that we got the best deal possible and since they were a large company we felt that we could trust them.

Approximately a month had passed and we were relieved to get our court hearing date because we really needed the money to pay all of our already past due bills. Then out of the blue last week someone by the name of Matt at JG
Wentworth called and said that they had made a mistake and that now they could only get us $51,000. When we complained they sent us a cancellation letter in the mail and abandoned us just before my court hearing date.

Now we are completely broke and totally screwed! We are going to have to start the process all over again by calling back all of the competitors who we already blew off and wasted their time the first time round. How embarrassing!

Who can I complain to about this bait and switch strategy?

Who you can call to report them

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with J.G. Wentworth and your financial problems.

I work in the industry and write a lot of articles about how to get the best deal for your payments. One of the things I always suggest is to check out the company with your state attorney general's office and the Better Business Bureau for complaints and get the offer in writing.

You can file a complaint against them in California here http://ag.ca.gov/contact/complaint_form.php?cmplt=CL

You can also file a complaint with the BBB here and click on file a complaint in the right hand corner.

Unfortunately it seems like you tried your best to do your homework. Don't be embarrassed. You're not an expert in this area and you can't be expected to learn the ins and outs of selling your payments overnight. Here is an article http://rescuecapital.com/blogs/2011/11/how-to-sell-your-future-structured-settlement-annuity-payments-without-running-into-issues/ that I think may help you as you begin your search.

Good luck-I hope everything works out for you.
