On 8-19-2016 Stephen a technician  from Kingman Pitzer's One Hour AC & Heating arrived to inspect my Rudd air unit. After approximately  30 minutes Stephen informed me I needed a  turbo 200 capacitor and it would cost 434.00 dollars alone just for this part. Being shocked I went online and found this exact part at three online suppliers for under $50.00 and free shipping. This would suggest the cost of the part should be around $35.00 When I confronted the tech that this was unethical he smiled and replied that's what they charged.

It was late Friday night and I was very hot and stressed from the heat. I sensed he knew it. He was right but I asked him to leave without repairing. The next day Arizona Sommers Air came out that Saturday after noon and they had my unit running in less than an hour.. My bill was $125.00 that included trip, service and the part.

In closing Pitzer's One Hour AC & Heating / Benjamin Franklin Plumbing of Kingman, Lake Havasu, Bullhead and Prescott based on this one transaction would have the appearance of an unethical and corrupt corporation I can only imagine all the innocent seniors and unknowledgeable folks who were taken especially those on a fixed income.

Pitzer's One Hour Air Conditioning wanted $535.00 for the repair and Arizona Sommers Air  out of Kingman,az completed the job for $125.00  Pitzer's One Hour Air Conditioning want 1200% markup for a $34.00 part

Really Outrages Overcharging -- Attempeted Defense Failed

If you feel good about paying $535.00 for a repair as opposed to $125.00, Both the companies have bonded and licensed repairman.

If you feel good about paying 1300% markup/More, (cost/part $35.00 dividing into $446.00 = 1300% markup on the price for their part).

If you feel good about paying your bill based on how much they can charge you, (what the market will bear). A Repairman who make his wages on commissions.

If you feel good about paying an additional 400% higher or $415.00 more dollars for the same repair cost/outcome.

Then it would appear that Pitzer's One Hour Heating and Air Company should be your choice.

In closing, using this one transaction as an example of Pitzer's One Hour AC & Heating of Kingman, Lake Havasu, Bullhead and Prescott Arizona all owned by an individual, Larry Thornton. It could be reasonably construed that this company could have the appearance of being unethical

And more than willing to take advantage of senior citizens, those on fixed incomes and anybody that is suffering from the heat and who is desperate to cool off.

First of all this company didn't "overcharge" you a dime.   You had them come, they quoted you a price, you didn't like the price and told them no.  Which is exactly what you should have done if you don't like the price being quoted.

This may be a shock to you but a company can charge what ever they want, it is up to you..the consumer..to decide if you are willing to pay the price.  If you aren't then the company has a choice to make, decide how to have better prices or lose customers.   Perhaps you should spend your time educating fellow seniors about being smarter consumers overall.

One thing that always is a bit annoying is the back-office "repairman".  After all you found the part on-line for $50 with shipping.  So of course you instantly figured that since they don't have to have it shipped to you, that the part should cost no more than $35.   So this company even though they did all of the legwork in getting the part, keeping the part in inventory, even providing a warranty on the installation of the part in case there is an issue is allowed to make exactly $0 profit.  Yes, that is what you are saying because that is the price you gave as fair.  So I hope you use this same due dilligence when you go for a car repair, because you may be in for a shock for that as well.

This company came out to you on a "late"(your words) Friday night.  When you get things outside of "regular" hours you are in just about every case get charged more.  My guess would be if you shopped around and even waited to make a regular appointment on a weekday you could have found a company that was even cheaper.

Think of it this way, say you have the Flu and want to get seen by a doctor.  If you go to an Urgent Care you are probably not going to be charged much more than your regular Co-Pay.  But if you go to an Emergency Room, even though it is the exact same diagnosis and treatment, you are charged $250 just for them to say hello.

Finally just a bit on your "math".  It is interesting how you focused on the how excessive the part was.  So what did this other company charge for the part?  They did break it down for you..didn't they?   You see company can "play" with the numbers all day long.  This other company could have charged you $35 but then added to cost to the service.  It is when you look at the TOTAL cost of the repair that it becomes important.  As you are well short of the 1200% you are claiming.

Actually if this other company wanted to charge you a total of $535, that is just a little over 300%, which while could still be considred "excessive" it may also be well within the range of an "emergency" service call.  Even if we combined your $434 and $535 that comes to just around $969, or a little over 700% more

Oh and no I am not now or have I ever worked for this or any other reapair company.
