These people breed curly horses.  They are weaning their foals at 2 weeks to 4 months.  They always claim the mother is ill or the foal will pick up nasty habits from the mother who was abused.  The truth is about half her horses she claims were abused, yet they arrived on her property as nice horses and turned that way after she had them awhile.  HMMM.  She will make a deal for you to buy a horse and then change her mind....The same with trades.  She is a licensed breeder.  All that is involved with that is paying ABC or ICHO an extra $100.00.  They never check on what their breeders are doing and are totally unconcerned if they cheat people.  If you want a curly horse, I would recommend curlies highly. This is a great breed.   JUST DON'T TRUST THIS PERSON and don't put any value to someone being a registered breeder.  Check out the breeder in person.  Avoid Penny Johnson.  She is a person who is in sad need of help in the integrity department.

Good People, Good Neighbor, Good Vendor

AUTHOR: Tim - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 23, 2015

My Name is Tim Harlan.  I have known the Johnsons for several years since they moved here.  We have done business together several times and I purchase from them every year.

These are very honest people.  Penny is a fine person with lots of experience in her field.  It is a shame to see someone trying to paint her as dishonest when nothing could be farther from the truth.  I think if you read the threads, it is more than clear that this was filed by a unhappy lady who was striking out because she was trying to pull a fast one on Penny.  Penny is careful and detailed and certainly not stupid.

In my visits to their ranch, I can assure you that all of her animals are well cared for, well fed, and treated with respect.  She knows her business.  If you purchase a horse from her, it will be nothing short of a fine animal.  She would certainly not ever try to sell you a animal that would be dangerious in any way.

I personally don't like sites like this - as people post things to hurt others without ever even offering their name.  I am not ashamed to put my name in any post I make.  I hope others will do the same.

One Last Word

AUTHOR: Penny Johnson - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, November 29, 2012

This is Penny Johnson, again.  I am the owner of Kootenai Curly Horses and the lady against whom the original rip off report was filed.  There are several things that I want the reader to know.  1.  The woman who filed this original rip off complaint was a licensed breeder with the American Bashkir Curly Registry and she was also active with Curly Horse Rescue.  This means that she was active in the curly world.  2. I visited her ranch, which was located in WA state.  She had a breeding stallion, several brood mares and 3 foals on the ground.  Her ranch was listed in the American Bashkir Curly Registry's international news letter.  3. She approached me about the trade.  I went down to her ranch and looked at the mare, promising that I would return in several months to make the trade.  I went down again, at the agreed upon time, to pick up the mare that she wanted me to take.  The owner of the mare and her husband tried to talk me into signing a sales agreement WITHOUT looking at the mare.   I insisted on seeing the mare before taking her.  As I noted before the owner could not trailer load the mare so we could not complete the trade.  4.  If any one wants to know the name of this woman, please contact me privately for this information.  My web site is: curlies.wpjohnson.net  Thank you.

Kootenai curly horses - This Rip Off report is defamatory, slanderous, and misleading.

AUTHOR: G. - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, November 26, 2012

I've known Penny Johnson for many years now amidst many conversations in the registry's. She's never spoke ill of anyone else personally to me, but provided excellent information on her extensive knowledge of the Curly Horse breed and it's history. She doesn't claim to the "the only honest breeder." Yet she does try many different ways to keep honesty instilled in her policies which makes her honesty a great value to her, and the breed, more than I can say for some people.

After reading all comments several times I must come to the conclusion that Penny is correct in this matter since: 1.You failed to give your name. 2. You did not file a lawsuit, more than likely because you would loose. 3. You gave absolutely no "specific information" as to your own personal exchange, but very vague information that you would have to hear as "gossip from others". 4. I think this is a hoax and I would demand that the author provide some proof of what even happened in their own circumstance in this matter. There is absolutely no specific information from this author on their own experience with Penny Johnson, but slanderous gossip.

How would you know if her horses arrived on her property as nice horses?  You would have to evaluate and judge each one on their arrival, then again at a later time. Please show your credentials to judge a horse in any manner. Yet you wont even show your name?

It takes a lot more than an extra $100 to have several quality ABCR registered equine available for your purchase, or in your case "a trade."  Even in a court of law (in my state) you can not be "ripped off" if somebody changes their mind on "a trade". Not to mention to fall back on a purchase if she didn't think the animal would have the proper home, or wasn't absolutely sure if she wanted to part with her animal. More specific, from the sound of it, you lost nothing but your hopes of ripping Penny off with a dangerous mare in exchange for a quality one of her own.

I've had people tell me they were going to buy a horse, then never even show up. If I were you, I would spend much of my time filing my own Rip Off reports.

This Rip off report claim is far from honest. If you took it to a court, the Judge would dismiss it with a chuckle even, because there was no currency exchanged. Nobody in their right mind would trade a quality sound mare for one that is violent, and/or dangerous and cannot even be loaded without a tranquilizer.

If it cannot be loaded, especially by the present owner...it pretty much shows who really abuses their horses by not even spending enough time with it so it can be loaded on a trailer? HMMM!

The lady who complained asked me to trade one of my brood mares for one of her brood mares. We agreed that we would trade if her mare was fairly safe to handle and trailer load.  I went to her house, with my horse trailer, to complete my part of the trade. When the lady and her family tried to load the mare, she refused to load. The mare than became violent, pulling back and breaking the lead rope when they attempted to tie her. The mare was not reasonably safe for either the owner or me to handle nor could the owner or her family load her into my trailer. Therefore, we could not complete the trade.

The remainder of her complaint is false and misleading.  I do not abuse my horses.  Visitors are welcome to visit my ranch and see for themselves.
