On 11/18/13 I called into Legal Zoom Customer Care to disclose how dissatisfied I was with their service and their deception at closing all prices.

A few weeks back I ordered their DBA services. In the actual DBA information, it states "no hiddien Prices". LIE #1

So I recieve an email stating that I will have to have to hire a notary, pay them to witness my signature and then pay to send the materials back to legal zoom to file.

I feel that this was a HUGE violation of my expressed contract with them to care for my filing needs. First nowhere in their add or documentation does it state an exclusion that says "prices may vary based on state or local town requirements". 

I would understand and expect a fee should my town require a notary for documents and it was DISCLOSED that I may need to pay additonal fees. The problem is, I click the Option for DBA, I go through the paying process and they did not say anything about potentially incurring additional fees based on your state or town. So after paying my money for the service, I assumed that the rest was taken care of.

So back to receiving this email. I get an email stating I need to have a notoary and mail it back in. Dissatisfied with that, i decide to take advtanage of their widely publicized "100% Satisfaction Guarantee" because I am not 100% Satisfied. 

I call into their customer serive and the inital rep says she can't help me because a manager has to approve the credit. I state okay, please send me to a Manager. I end up getting a "DENISE" who is the only one in her escalation department. I said are you the manager, she said, I'm in the escalation department at Corporate.  She then begins to tell me that they do not disclose that there may be any other charges associated to your filing until you recieve an email stating there are. I tell her that isn't good enough. You should be disclosing that "additional fees may be required to complete the filing" BEFORE a customer actually purchases the product, so they are aware there may be additional charges. As a consumer, we are under the impression that we are all set once paying that fee.

I tell her that I am dissatisfied with that and I'd like to speak with a manager. and she says and I quote "Maybe you didn't hear me but I am in the escalation department". 

So she says, this situation doesn't warrant a credit or refund. I basically said, I didn't realize its at your discretion to decide when a customer is satisified or not.

Completely unprofessional, completely rude and as a legal processing company, they should be warned about not disclosing pricing or about deceiving the customer on potential charges associated to their state prior to having to pay for the service.

I am still sitting here dissastified, contemplating talking to a laywer to figure out how many other poeple may have been wronged by this filing practice of theirs...

And to boot, all they had to do is own the wrong, express an apology and credit for the additional fee for the notary and mailing, which I most likely would have used on their site.

NOW, I'm so pissed I may even cancel my other services with them and blog about this to reach as many people as I can.

I also WELCOME a response from Legal Zoom considering they are not upholding their "100%  Satisfaction Guarantee".

I spoke with Chyna above via email and she was very apologetic about the treatment I received and was more than willing to work with me to resolve the issue. 

She even stated that she would be providing the feedback to the right teams to determine if there is a need to change the process.

I'm mostly happy with the fact that she actually took ownership of the situation. She actually held up the Satisfaction Guarantee and did the following:

1) refunded me the notary service and

2) provided a shipping label.

 

although the company does still continue to say that they can't possibly know all of the individual requirements for a state filing, they could put an asterik or disclosure that states "additional steps and requirements may be required including fees for notary and/or postage to ensure the right expectations are set.

 

overall, I think have posted my concerns here help motivate the company to do the right thing.

 

and they should employee more people like Chyna and fire the people like Denise.
