Let me start out by stating these guys are absolute crooks. This entire company in itself is mismanaged. Getting ahold of anyone is a chore, once you actually talk to someone they usually screw whatever you told them up. Nearsay is trash it doesn't rank your website any faster. If you fall for this be warned you are throwing away money. If anyone is on the fence about this place please contact me I will tell you so many horror stories. I don't want anyone else to suffer what I went through.

Update 04/03/2015: I have now started receiving collections for services unpaid.  This is outrageous, as I did not continue paying for their services and yet they still kept my account active.  Again, another poor management decision.

-------------------------

I am a past user of the LocalVox paid service of $300/month.  Really wanted the service to help my business, but it was far from helpful.

First, the articles from the assigned writer was very basic, with poor grammar and several spelling errors.  But, I found out that this is a way an article can get more finds by a search engine.  Poor practice, because I don't want to have my clients read my articles that look soo poorly written.  I had to correct all articles before they were published...  I didn't know the writer wasn't a well-trained writer.  Maybe anyone can write articles, so hire just anyone.

The writer also didn't know my industry, nor did the account manager.  Restaurants may see their service as beneficial, because everyone should know how to write an article on how delicious a meal can be.  But, when dealing with a professional service most people don't understand fully, then its not great to see your name associated with a poorly written article.  And the pictures for the articles were less than well thought of.  Some were of very bad taste.

Secondly, Google Adwords has helped more than adding my site to a ton of directories that the average person doesn't use.  I have continued getting just as many hits to my site as without this directory listing service.

Third, Yelp is great, as it continues to bring more than LocalVox could ever, and for free.  I had the same thoughts on these negative yelp reviews hurting a business and the good ones didn't get through, but that was all before I understood Yelp and how it worked.  If you want a positive review about Yelp to show up, then find a user that has written more than the one review for your business.  Then, you, the business owner, can simply reply a thank you to that reviewer, and voila, increase the chance that positive review shows up (it usually works once done.)  So, the negative article on Yelp isn't fair to their business.

Fourth, the account management can't even stick to the terms of a contract.  If you don't get paid from an account, why continue working with them?  It states in the contract service ends immediately.  Why string it on?  Also, month-to-month was written in the contract after the initial 6 months.  The account manager received my email cancellation, then proceeds to tell me that it auto-renewed for another 6 months.  Really?!

Fifth, a new account manager, after my initial one was let go or quit after a few months, tells me, "I want to rewrite our whole SEO strategy for your business, and take it in a new direction."  Yeah, no!  Everyone who works with SEO will tell you you don't ever do this.  You'll start over from where you were, wasting the businesses money.  Really not good.  Lose 6 months of effort is a really poor strategy.

LocalVox did not help my business.  If anything, it caused me to lose business, as I lost clients through their article email blastings.  Read them articles before they are blasted, or you'll be sorry.

So, please don't throw away your money to a company who doesn't know how to stick to their own contracts and has other bad practices.  If you are in a niche industry, this is far from what you need.  Google and Yelp your way to success!

I never and I mean never write reviews, but local vox has inspired me. They bill me 350 dollars a month. That was to include marketing and article writing. Two articles where written when I should have had nine, they where suppose to help create marketing pages to this day nothing of that sort has happened. You are better off using google add words. I am calling my bank and requesting a refund

1) LV never delivered the 120 directory listings I contracted for. After 14 months, I only had 52 directories. They said it was a snafu caused by moving their offices to a new location.

They claim they then added 40 more listings but by that time, I was fed up and cancelled. It was too little too late. When I asked for the final list of directories, they totally ignored me and my requests. (I made 4 requests and all 4 were denied.) Why pay $250/month when you can go to a company specializing in directory listings and pay less than $100 for the year!!

2) LV reincarnated their dashboard often. It was fraught with glitches. I found it much faster to post on social media myself. Why pay for a dashboard?

3) LV's so-called writers are awful. I had to re-write the content myself. Why pay for a writer?

4) LV's monthly report format continually changed and was never easy to interpret. Social media provides reports. Why pay LV for yet another report?

5) LV never notified me of their blogs and meet-ups, although I had signed up for them.

6) I never received one prospect from Nearsay. Furthermore, LV listed me as a house cleaner which I am definitely not. I asked for the listing to be removed which apparently fell on deaf ears. Why pay for a listing that is miscategorized?

7) With all the problems I had, LV actually tried to hustle me to upgrade to Broadcast for yet another $3,000/year. AND wanted me to provide a testimonial for their website! How could I possibly even consider other services if my basic service was not performing? This was tacky, desperate and greedy.

I agree with Rick K below on 6/9/15. It's generic technology -- not cutting edge --and not worth the big $$$ they charge. Regularly blogging and posting on social media is easy to do yourself - and you're in control. Don't fall for LV's sales pitch that as a small entrepreneur, you need a marketing partner because you will be too busy managing your business.

As they say, why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free.
