I was wearing my headphones and this guy stopped me and complimented my boots (around the Houston 1 Station). It was around 11:00 am and I was on my way to work in SoHo. He started talking about how interesting my voice was, and asked me if I ever thought about working in voiceovers. I said no, but he persisted in trying to convince me that he was a "real guy", which I am in shock regarding the fact that I felt uneasy the whole time but he kept doing things to confirm his intent. He says his name is Lori, and that he played someone on the Cosby Show but is now working for Viacom. He was very enthusiastic and if one misremembers, one could imagine him on the Cosby Show. He has the Viacom number memorized and types it into his phone and made me listen to see that it was actually Viacom he was calling. He then talked to someone for a bit, and tells me that the pay is 195/hr on the weekends, but I would only have to pay a $380 deposit for voice tapes. He kept pulling out his wallet and showing various cards, a battered Nickelodeon card and MTV business card as well. He was very personable and seemed down to earth, sounding completely legitimate. He also said that if I decided I didn't want to do it I would be refunded by check.

We discussed where we grew up (he says he's located in LA and wore los angeles adorned apparel), how he's about to buy a doll for his daughter's birthday at the American Girl store, etc. I thought he was so genuine that I agreed to do it. He then changed the number to $480 (saying it was a 100 dollar insurance deposit that was automatically refunded). I didn't have any money on me and I had just gotten paid and figured I could just cash the check and give him money rather than giving him my debit card information. He waited outside the bank, and as I came out was talking on the phone with someone who he was speaking to about giving me free Book of Mormon tickets just as a gesture. I ended up giving him the money. I have impeccable street smarts and had a strange intuition about him, but still inevitably was misled and convinced otherwise. This guy was very, very good at what he does. Please trust your instinct, it's not real and do NOT trust this man.
