Originally, we had a verticle Cozy heater, made by Louisville Tin & Stove Co. of Kentucky. We had about 4-5 thermocouples replaced in this thing in just a few years. Eventually, the exhaust manifold developed a huge hole in it, and beghan venting exhaust into our home. Over a period of months, we all started exhibiting strange, non-specific symptoms... like rosy-red cheeks. Eventually, we found the leak and the heater was replaced.

The new heater, also a Cozy (our landlord's decision, not mine), in place for about 1.5 years now, is also chewing through thermocouples. The heater repairman just left, another $85 to $150 richer for the replacement of a $14 thermocouple.

I finally tire of this process... so I call Louisville Tin and Stove for help. The (apparently) sole Tech Support guy is already on the phone, and has another call waiting (go figure). He eventually calls back, but I have to reject the call since I am dealing with the heater repairman. I immediately call the company back. I explain that I had called previously with a service issue, missed the return call, and I am now calling back for the service tech. This was too much for the switchboard operator to process (apparently), so I repeated the sentence a bit more slowly... so that she could understand my thick California accent (roll eyes here).

The service guy gets on the phone. I tell him of the saga; that the original heater was older, and it was blowing up thermocouples, until it was replaced about 1.5 years ago. I explained that the new unit was also blowing up thermocouples, repeatedly. I explained how many each heater had blown up. He told me that my exhaust pipe was too short, causing the pilot lite to not stay lit. WHAT??

I repeated, louder since he clearly missed what I had said, that the exhaust was not the issue... that the units were blowing up thermocouples, and that the bad thermocouples prevent the pilot from staying lit; a fact easily found on their website. The response? The inbred on the other end of the line told me, in an aggressive fashion, that I had better lower my tone or he would hug-up the phone on me.

Two Cozy heaters... 6-8 repairs at $85-$150 a pop... constant, repetitive heater issues that would make anyone want to chuck the Cozy heaters into the trash heap... longterm exposure to high CO2 levels from a massive hole in their exhaust manifold that have caused health issues... a receptionist that can't decipher a neutral California voice,.. and a service tech that also seems unable to follow the bouncing ball, forcing his customers to raise their voice in order to get through his thick skull... causing him irreparable harm and forcing him to disconnect the call. WAAAAH!

Save yourself the headaches. By a name-brand heater. We moved into a rental in order to take care of my girlfriend's elderly parents. We rent from them in fact. They made the choice to go with Cozy. After this repair today, I told my girlfriend that, on the next repair, I will install a different heater on my own dime, just so that I do not have to deal with the 3-4 day freezing-our-arses off cycle while we await repairs. After dealing with the inbreds at this company, and getting poisoned and frozen by their products, I want nothing more to do with them... except to warn others about them.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
