Luxor Automotive Inc is a used car lot that uses classic "Used Car Salesmen" tactics to get you interested in the "Best Car on their lot", and will "Tell you anything you want to hear" to get you to leave a deposit. I was looking at a 2002 Mercedes Benz ML500, that their online description stated, "The best, cleanest, most impressive vehicle I have seen in my 25 years of experience", and I was there on a Saturday afternoon. I asked if I could take the vehicle to a mechanic to check-out prior to purchasing, and I was specifically told "Yes, as long as you do not take the vehicle to Mercedes Benz of Tampa, because they will always find over $2000 worth of Service and/or Maintenance that is needed ASAP!" The representative said, "Leave me a $500 cash deposit, and if the mechanic finds anything wrong with the vehicle that was related to the engine or transmission, he would return my deposit, No Questions Asked", because I have it "Sold" to a friend of the Owner next week. [continued below]....
I paid $50 for a vehicle inspection, and was provided with a detailed list of issues, 3 of which were directly related to the engine and transmission, and an estimate for over $4000 in repairs. The 3 issues were: 1) Rear Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal leaking oil, 2) Transfer Case Actuator has triggered a "Code" and must be replaced, 3) The Power Steering reservoir has been replaced recently, but the Steering Rack is leaking pretty badly, and needs to be replaced. I presented this list to Luxor, and they immediately said this is "OK" we have the vehicle Sold, and asked if they could have a few weeks to look for me another vehicle. I have given them 21 days, and they have not found the vehicle I was interested in, and when I asked for my $500 deposit to be returned, the representative I had spoken with said I had to see the girl in the office. She said, " I am too busy handling another more important issue, and today is not the day to hit her with this type of thing!" Then, after waiting while my original representative was working with a customer, another representative said,"he was the owner listed on their business license, and I am not going to return your $500 deposit, because then I would have to return the deposit to over 1000 other people who have asked for their deposit back as well."
Also, you signed a paper that stated,"...a deposit of $500 in exchange which we will withhold said vehicle from sale to others for a period of 7 days. Said deposit will be credited toward purchase of above listed vehicle or similar vehicle from our inventory within above stated time period or else said deposit will be forfeited and will not be refunded". Before I signed the paper and provided the representative with the $500 cash deposit, the representative said, "Leave me a $500 cash deposit, and if the mechanic finds anything wrong with the vehicle that was related to the engine or transmission, he would return my deposit, No Questions Asked", and because I have it "Sold" to a friend of the Owner next week. I passionately recommend that you avoid dealing with this company, and make an educated decision and learn from my personal experience, because this is not a reputable business!!!
