some suggestions--has it worked before or are you just setting it up?

You didn't mention whether you had used this successfully before or whether you are just getting it set up.

I had some problems initially getting it to work and I really wanted it to but was about ready to give up. And I agree, the tech support that I got initially was rather lame.

I could make calls but they were very broken and very hard to understand until I got it set up right.

A few things to check that might get it working for you.

1. Use USB 2 with no non-usb2 devices plugged into the hub that might lower it to usb1. A powered usb2 hub works better than directly plugged into the usb2 ports in the back of the laptop. Also when it wasn't working for me at first I was using a relatively new USB2 hub but it had older, non-usb2 devices hooked up to it which slowed everything down.

When I re-arranged the plugs so that I only had usb2 devices plugged into the powered usb2 hub with the magicJack it worked great.

2. I had a problem after I got it working well when I made another call and tried using the magicJack dialer before I picked up the phone line. It was garbled and very broken.

Since then I make sure that magicJack has completely loaded and is active and then pick up (turn on) the phone and dial using the phone.

Other issues that I've had which may be a nuisance but I can deal with them for the great value are that my laptop will go into hibernate and magicJack seems to sometimes turn off so I have to get it booted up again. It is a bit annoying that it takes longer for my computer to boot, but again, I can live with this.

I am using high speed cable internet. This is not my only phone as it would not be feasible for that since I turn my computer off during the night, plus my computer is upstairs--too far away from other areas of the house to make it practical for me to use as my only phone, although there may be work arounds for this.

I also have cable phone service which I use for local calling and incoming calls.

So for me, there were a few problems getting it set up and I almost gave up, but I love being able to make free calls all over the country without using up my limited call phone minutes or having to wait for my night minutes.

I have had occasional dropped calls but I'm not even sure it was magicJac that was responsible.

I hope that the above may be helpful in getting the unit up and working. It is worth a little bit of work to get things put together right for the freedom to make free long distance phone calls.

I'm also realizing that there were calls that I wasn't making because they were long distance calls and would likely take awhile, but that meant that some issues weren't getting addressed with my business. This way I'm free to make the calls without worrying about the bill.

I also make more calls to my family and can talk to my elderly Father who has moved to another state for extended periods of time.

So again, its worth the hassle of working out the kinks to get it up and working. Now if it has been working and stopped, then that would be a customer service or warranty issue.
